Dragon On Fire

Picture quality

Yes, the rumors are true: this is a widescreen print. Not fully widescreen, but more around the 1.85:1 aspect ratio. This allows for more picture information to be seen (compared to the Brentwood version in the Dragon Lee boxset). The colors are also much better than the Brentwood version. No one is orange in this print! Check out the screen comparisons below:

Sound quality

The sound is definitely a mixed bag (no pun intended). It seems to go from soft to loud throughout the film.

The Film

The movie is really good but, uh oh...we have a problem. Despite being a better-looking print, this version is cut by almost 10 minutes. While the Brentwood print runs 86 minutes, this one runs a scant 78 minutes. Tsk, tsk. Now, to make this more confusing, Xenon's print does include the shots of the dog running away with Chan Lau's severed penis in his mouth that is not on the Brentwood disc! Fight fans will be glad to know that the kung fu scenes are intact and that only dialogue bits are missing. But still...the movie is cut down.

Extras

No trailers or anything, but there are some bonus fight scenes. The fights are from JACKIE AND THE 36 CRAZY FISTS, CHAMP AGAINST CHAMP, BUDDHA ASSASSINATOR, EAGLE VS. SILVER FOX and INVINCIBLE OBSESSED FIGHTER.

Packaging

I actually like the artwork Xenon did on these Wu Tang Classics line. While the focus on Dragon Lee overshadows the real stars (John Liu and Tino Wong), it still is pretty eye-catching.

Overall

This DVD is a mixed blessing. One the one hand, it is a much nicer print of the film. On the other hand, it is cut and the audio is weak.
