Goodbye Bruce Lee - His Last Game of Death

DISCLAIMER
Well I don't know if I should be reviewing DVDs because I don't have a fancy home theatre. I don't have a large TV. I don't have a surround sound system. I watch movies on a 27" TV and the sound comes the TV and a plain old desk top stereo. That was just my disclaimer.

The Movie

The print that Legacy Entertainment used for this DVD, is cut! Unfortunately, this is the only version of the movie I've seen. After reading William's review of the movie I noticed this version was missing the scene with the black boxer in the Tower of Death. I have no idea why this was cut, it's not it's some graphic violence or hardcore sex. There may have been other cuts, but again I haven't seen the "uncut" film, so I can't be sure.

Picture Quality

The movie is slightly letterboxed, but still it's not at the full aspect ratio. It's better than full screen though. Picture quality is usually "okay", about the same as all those other cheapie kung fu DVDs. Don't expect some Super Bit quality. There are several times when white lines briefly appear on the screen, they don't stay on for very long, but it's still annoying. See the screen caps below for an example.

Sound Quality

Read the disclaimer, it all sounded fine to me. The box says it was in Dolby Digital.

Extras/Menus/Other Crap

Extras consist of an interactive menu and scene index (12 chapters!). How many times must we say it, "THESE ARE NOT EXTRAS!" In other words, there are no extras.

Generic packaging, with Bruce Li pusting a pose in his GOD suit on the cover. It all looks so bland, nothing seems to stand out or catch your eye. The front of the box (and the back!) states, "Bruce Lee mysteriously died during the filming of the movie." We all know he died before he could complete Game of Death, but I never knew he was also working on Goodbye Bruce Lee. Did he know he was gonna die? If he died during the filming of the movie, why is there no footage?? I guess only the real killers know! The art on the disc itself, isn't too bad.

The main menu features a box with a clip from the movie playing in it with a background of a blue with white wispy white stuff. I don't get it. I guess they wanted to make it look totally lame or something.

Overall

Just another cheap lame DVD. The fact that it's a cut version of the film, just makes it worse. Just get the superior Anchor Bay version or the UK DVD which happens to reviewed by Carl. Don't bother with this one.
