The Real Bruce Lee 2

The Films

Like its predecessor THE REAL BRUCE LEE, this semi-sequel follows the same format; a short documentary featuring rare footage of Bruce Lee's child performances, Bruce Lee wannabe footage and a feature slapped at the end introducing a "new" heir to Bruce's throne. The early Lee films include the drama GUIDING LIGHT, the dance film SWEET LADY (watch Lee cha-cha with the best of them) and the comedy WISE GUYS WHO FOOL AROUND (with Lee as a lovelorn geek!). These scenes only run 15 minutes total. Following this are clips from some Bruceploitation classics, one for each of the big stars of the genre. Shown are DEADLY STRIKE (Bruce Li), EYE OF THE DRAGON (Bruce Le) and EMPEROR OF THE UNDERWORLD (Dragon Lee). The narrator then introduces Dragon Sek, who apparently will "continue the dragon's legacy into the 21st Century." Oddly enough, they introduce him as Sky Dragon. Huh? The film then segues into BIG BOSS UNTOUCHABLE.

Picture quality

For a VideoAsia disc, the picture quality is pretty nice (no glitches bitches!). The documentary footage is sepia toned but in relatively good shape for age-old films. Both this and the feature BIG BOSS UNTOUCHABLE are presented fullscreen.

Sound quality

The young Bruce Lee clips are in Chinese with easy to read subtitles. BIG BOSS UNTOUCHABLE is presented dubbed. The entire disc is in 2.0.

Extras

Extras are pretty decent for this set. For BIG BOSS UNTOUCHABLE, there is a trailer and a short 'behind the scenes' footage (same as the UK disc). Next up is a "Bruce Lee Press Conference", which is a rare clip of Lee saying "Thank You" in English and Chinese at a GREEN HORNET press conference. Yup, that is it. Sadly, it is only one minute long and in really poor quality. "Meeting the Real Bruce Lee" features interviews with Lee students Ed Hart, Joe Lewis and Jesse Glover. Glover's interview is the best of the three as he relates stories about what Bruce was really like to hang around with. Finally there is "They Call Us Bruce" which is really bonus fight scenes from DRAGON - THE YOUNG MASTER, CHALLENGE OF THE TIGER and THE IRON DRAGON STRIKES BACK.

Packaging

The package design is pretty nice and will grab people's attention off the shelf.

Final Thoughts

If you can find this for under $10 (or 51 cents like I did), it is worth picking up. The footage of Bruce Lee's early roles is interesting and BIG BOSS UNTOUCHABLE is a decent time waster. One of the main reasons I would recommend it is to see the various fight scenes from Dragon Lee's 1994 vehicle EMPEROR OF THE UNDERWORLD, a title still unavailable in the US.
