EDGE OF FURY

Year: 1978

Running time: 85 minutes

I haven't watched any "bad" kung fu type movies for a while and then I watched this one. It was good to see Bruce Li jumping around and doing spin kicks and stuff in his huge bell bottom jeans, I almost missed it. Okay, in this here film Bruce plays a chaffeur who's boss is caught for drug dealing. Bruce was oblivious to this and everyone is trying to get the last shipment of opium and the will.

Although I did have some trouble finding out what year this movie was made. The book, Asian Cult Cinema said 1980, two website I found said 1979, finally I went with the Hong Kong Movie Database which said 1978. One of the sites that said 1979 had this description of the movie, "When a wealthy businessman finds himself framed on a phony drug charge in Bangkok, he turns to his trusty chauffeur for help. Fortunately for him, his driver is none other than Bruce Lee."

The film is alright, but it does get kinda slow. Li really shows off his acting skills and shows us his sensitive side by crying when he finds out his boss is dead. Don't worry the movie isn't all serious, there are funny parts and lots of kung fu carnage. As per usual the kung fu ain't anything special. You seen one Bruce Li fight scene you pretty much seen them all.

Some of the more memorable scenes are:

I was surprised to see Yasuaki Kurata in the credits. He is so above a movie like this, his talents go to waste. Hey, we all do things we regret. I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time. In '78 he makes this Brucepoitation and year later in '79 he makes the kick ass kung fu flick, Challenge of the Ninja. Now that's a step in the right direction.
