Tekata's weyr Return to the Candidate Listing

Candidate at
Falas Weyr
Tekata, female, age 15, Lady Holder, daughter of Tylee Kshau and Brown rider K'yle of Alabaster. Fostered by Tain of Paveh Hold.

A strong bodied girl, though with very long legs and longer fingers than one would expect to see. She keeps herself looking very pristine, though in a kind of rakish way. Her typical wear is sensual without being overdone, she prefers simple clothing and bright colors to any of the dark, ornate things that other Ladies wear. Her eye for artistic detail surely comes from her father's side of the family, while her mental stability and use of her strong empathic powers is inherited from the Kshaus. She has very pale skin, but it does not burn in the sun, it only seems to get whiter. Her hair is vividly black, but with brilliant red-orange highlights when the sun strikes it, and unlike most Holders her hair is kept rather short. Her eyes are a beautiful pale blue, and she uses them to get nearly anything from most human men.

Tekata has a remarkably strong sense of animals and can hear dragons when they are quite close to her. She cannot control them, but she does feel a strange buzzing in her mind when there is a wing flying overhead or a search going on. Her main focus of these powers is to use them as a beast crafter, which her Holder 'friends' seem to think is far below her. She loves to race runners, and while she owns several herself, she tends to allow her riders to do their work rather than interfere. She enjoys betting on the outcomes of the races she has runners in, as she knows very strongly the condition of each runner before the race!

When Tekata was a young girl, her ability to sense runners showed up unexpectedly at a race. The tiny pale-skinned girl darted out onto the racing ground right before the race was to start, and, crying loudly, the five turn old girl insisted that one of the runners be removed from the race. Between sobs and pointing, she was ignored as a frantic child would be. Sadly, the runner which she had indicated, ran out of the starting gate with a lame leg, tripped and broke the leg, and had to be put down quickly, lest its hideous screams be heard for too long.

Tekata was not ignored after that point. Everyone at Paveh hold knows she is a gifted girl, how could she not be? After all, her bloodline includes not only strong riders from both sides, but strong mental and emotional powers, and a beauty that only the Alabaster and Marad lines could generate. She carries herself with ease and grace. She is not above a little show of rank, however she treats her drudges and servants with respect and even adoration. Her grandmother Mirage taught her those things, a lesson she wishes the beautiful woman could be pursuaded to teach the rest of the Ladies of the Hold.
"I wish to see him," Tekata claimed to the Steward. The middle aged man rolled his eyes at the young girl before him, and sighed.

"If everyone was allowed to see the Lord Holder, he would have to get a much bigger office, young Lady. Now please, scurry along home." He made shooing motions.

Tekata narrowed her beautiful eyes. "Sir, you perhaps do not know to whom you speak."

"Oh, I can recognize a young Lady when I see one, but that does not get you into Darkhanis' chambers."

"It is a matter of urgency," the young lady, only 14 turns old at the time, said. "And I must see him." She attempted to change tactics now. "SIr, can't you see that I need just a moment of his Lordship's time? I know there is no one in his chambers with him just now, he may be working on something important like... paper work," she raised her eyebrow, "but I can help with that. I am quite literate you know."

"Ahh, my dear, you give a pursuasive argument," the steward said, smiling with acid in his eyes. "But you are not going to get in to see him. Lord Paveh is quite busy, and you do not know there is no one in his chambers. He entertains quite often."

"He will entertain this guest," a deep resonant voice came from behind the Steward, who promptly nearly collapsed. "Because she is one of his favorite neices." Darkhanis gave the steward a momentary glare, and then turned his bright face on his black-haired great-neice. "Tekata, what brings you here?"

"It is important..." She glared at the steward as well, with nearly the same force. "And I must speak to you in private."

They removed to the inside of his chambers, and Darkhanis could not hold back a chuckling laugh. "Oh the look on his face," he said, dabbing at his eye which had grown a tear from laughing. "Now, dearest?"

"I will be searched." She said, shortly.

Darkhanis blinked. Then he blinked again.

"... Yes? Shall you?"

"Yes. Tomorrow."

Darkhanis ticked his tongue, in thought. "Ah. I see. So now you have grown prophetic?"

"No, there is a search rider coming to the Hold soon. And I ... have felt a connection with them for some time. May I be allowed to stand before him in the search?"

"Well," Darkhanis pondered, allowing the girl a little sweat before answering. "Of course you may. Everyone knows your father earned his dragon fairly. Poor Engell never thought he'd have this many riders in his brood..."

"Grandfather is going to be ... disappointed," Tekata said.

"What makes you say that, my dear?" Darkhanis asked, draping his thick arm over her narrow shoulders.

"He will want more of his children to be holders, not riders."

"But you will be both, like his son, your father. And like many of my own children. You know they will welcome you. Besides, he runs a WEYRhold, Tekata. Or have you forgotten?"

Tekata grinned from ear to ear. "No, but living here at Paveh Hold keeps me more on the Lady side than the weyrbrat side. So I will stand for the search?"

"And you will be Searched, so I have heard," Darkhanis laughed into the afternoon...
