Scotty's Desert Island Discs

Note: Eleven is a recurring number in my life.
Also my lucky number.
So, Naturally,  I chose Eleven  Discs. -Scotty

1. U2

"The Unforgettable Fire"

The perfect marriage of artist and producer,
(U2 and Brian Eno.) And, this was their baby!
Elements of funk, soul and jazz float through
on a wash of modern psychedelia
and haunt the very core of this album.
2. Brian Wilson

  "Smile"

Yes, this spot was prevoiously occupied by The Beach Boys "Pet Sounds." And yes "Smile" is a suitable replacement, and is everything it's ever been cracked up to be.
The one time "teenage symphony to God" turns out to to be a very mature ode to the Hawaiian islands, and indictment of american colonialism, among other things. And it's fun! Thanks Brian!
3. Led Zeppelin

 "Physical Graffiti"

Everybody has that one album that was the soundtrack  to their adolescence.
This was mine.
4. Cocteau Twins

"Heaven or Las Vegas"

For those who know the Twins' music; you can   imagine the arduous task it was to pick just one Twins disc for this list.
This was the funkiest. I like funky!
For those who don't, this is a good place to start!
5.   David Bowie

"The Rise and Fall of
Ziggy  Stardust and the Spiders from Mars"

Say what you will about Bowie; Poseur or Genius.
I happen to think he was both.
And BOTH are present, and accounted for on this album.
Want More proof?...
In the 80's, we got EXACTLY the Bowie we DESERVED for electing Reagan!
So, you can't say you were never warned!
6.   "Pretenders" Simply the best debut album, by  ANYONE,  EVER.
7. "The Very Best of Elvis Costello
     and The Attractions"
Ok, some people say that including best ofs on these lists is cheating!
I say; the question was which discs do you want to have with you if you're stranded on a deserted island!
And, I simply CAN'T  be without this disc!
NO WAY!
If I HAD to pick one Costello Album,
It'd be "Trust."
8.   R.E.M.

      "Up"

This one tends to change with each new release by this group.
They just keep getting better and better.
But this disc especially, because
the music on it helped me through
a particularly difficult time in my life.
9.   The Moon Seven Times

          "7=49"

(1994 RoadRunner; CD)

Kind of an obscure selection, to be sure.
One of the few albums I've ever bought solely on the strength of hearing it playing in a record store.
I bought it, that day, fresh out of the store's cd player!
Lyrically, one the most powerful and poignant albums I've ever heard.
Imagine losing your entire family ( brothers, sisters, EVERYBODY)   in a horrible accident...
You're the sole survivor.
What kind of songs would you write as a tribute to them?
That's what this album is about!
This album never fails to make me cry.
Very Heavy!!!
10.  Robert Plant

"Manic Nirvana"

There were two albums released in 1990 that were so hot, they'd melt the vinyl  off of a  Van Halen album!
This was one of them!
The other didn't quite make the list.
THIS is the disc I'd put on when I wanted to blow the roof off the shack!
11.  Heart

"Dog & Butterfly"

 Side one rocks!
Side two is perfect for those romantic moments with Friday!
