During the mid fifties and until my father's death in 1969, I spent many hours working with my father and the dogs. Innumerable days were spent throwing birds and dummies, being bitten unmercifully by mosquitoes at the Alabama swamps and just generally enjoying many different breeds of sporting dogs. My heart was, however taken over by the versatile and loving Labrador Retriever. After college, I was lucky enough to purchase a Sunstorm Labrador from Margaret Watson and the rest is history. In my last years of college I earned much of my money through private professional obedience and field training. The introduction of confirmation shows added just one more aspect to my love of dogs.
I was lucky to have the help of many area professionals and apprenticed with A.A. Bud Moser, obtaining an AKC license to handle all breeds, which I held until the AKC suspended the practice of licensing handlers.
Today I continue to handle professionally, do some private obedience training and teaching and conduct one of the most sought after and successful handling classes in Western New York. |
