Milwaukee Area Piano Teachers Association
WHAT IS MAPTA?
WHO ARE WE AND WHAT CAN WE DO FOR YOU?
MAPTA:  Milwaukee Area Piano Teachers Association is a professional non-profit organization of piano educators.  MAPTA is open to all PIANO TEACHERS within the state of Wisconsin.  Our purpose is to acquire professional relationships in the exchanging of ideas with other piano teachers.  Our goal is to help area piano teachers stay informed and on top of the latest developments in pedagogy, with special guest speakers and videos with topics ranging from technique to teaching materials.
PAST PRESENTORS HAVE INCLUDED:  Cathy Albergo, Elizabeth Gutierrez, Carol Klose, Elvina Truman Pearce, Dallas Weekley & Nancy Arganbright, Bruce Berr, Jeffrey Hollander, Joyce Gill, and Peggy Ottwell ...just to name a few!  MAPTA plans on continuing to bring you more of such fine presenters in the future.
MAPTA meets (3) three times per year.  Our meetings are in Fall, Winter & Spring as follows:  September/October, late January and April.  All members are required to attend at least two meetings per year in order to qualify for entering students in the MAPTA AUDITIONS, which are held on the first Sunday in March.  Students who enter the Auditions must play (3) three memorized pieces.  They can earn up to 15 points per year.  Once they accumulate 25 points  they earn a trophy.  There are several categories that students may enter in:   SOLO NON-COMPETITIVE or COMPETITIVE divisions and/or DUET NON-COMPETITIVE divisions.  For more details and specific requirements, please refer to the MAPTA AUDITIONS HANDBOOK or email MAPTA if you have any questions regarding the Auditions.  Students entering at level 5 & up who earn 14-15 points, qualify to perform at the MAPTA HONORS RECITAL (held two weeks after the Auditions).  Students who are at level 3 & up and earned at least 13 pts. are eligible to take part in the POST AUDITION RECITAL.  This event is usually held a week or two after auditions.

There are many benefits in becoming a member of MAPTA.  Through our special guest speakers and presentations, teachers stay informed on topics related to teaching and offers teachers an opportunity to socialize and share ideas with other members.

MAPTA offers students an opportunity to demonstrate the skills that they have acquired. and rewards students through awards such as trophies earned in the NON-COMPETITIVE division of the MAPTA AUDITIONS and monetary awards for winners in the COMPETITIVE division of the MAPTA AUDITIONS as well as through special events, such as the MAPTA HONORS RECITAL, and POST AUDITION RECITAL.
