Star Wars:Return to the Past, Armor to the present.
"Captain Steven Bermen, United States Army, reporting as ordered
sir."
"Sit down Captain. Would you like some coffee?"
"No thank you General."
"OK, let me get right to the point. You are aware of the research
done by Tesla and Einstein back in the early 1900's, correct
Captain? I believe your doctorate thesis at Stanford was on the
works of Tesla. Well, I have a proposition for you. Are you
interested?"
"Sir, if it has to do with any of Tesla's repressed works, I am more
than interested."
"Good. Do you recall anything about the Philadelphia experiment?"
"Only what I had read online and in the textbooks sir. But if I may
say so, it was all conjecture, and no fact. Nothing proved it even
happened."
The General slid a folder across the table. Bordered on the edge
was a yellow and white tape, marked codeword. On the front, was the
word Jedi.
"Sir, I am not codeword classified. This is way above anything I
have."
The General smiled and slid another sheet of paper across.
"All it needs is your signature, and you will be cleared for this,
and any related projects. But remember Captain. You can't even
dream about what you are going to learn. Understood?"
"Yes Sir" He signed the form, and then quickly, almost ravenously,
grabbed for the folder. He pulled it open, and read the
classification sheets on the inside, then moved on. He got about 2
paragraphs when his eyes bulged, and his jaw dropped like a rock.
"T-T-Time travel?"
"That is correct, Captain. Read on."
Bremen made it to the last paragraph on the summary, and slowly re-
read the words in front of him. `The marks on the battleships seemed
to have been made by a high powered laser, one of which technology
doesn't even exist at this time. There are also several slashes in
the blast doors, consistant with a high energy beam. Currently no
such weapon is possible.'
"Sir, what is this about?"
The General smiled, and slid another folder over to him. Same
classification, only the title on this was Mace Windu.
Chapter 2
The fifteen US Military personnel filed out of the briefing room,
all looking stunned, and somewhat shaken. They had every right to
be, as they moved out into the bright August sun. They were all
volunteers, but they had only just received their orders.
The team leader, Major Robert Jackson, a 6 foot 2, 275 pound
bodybuilder, moved his unit away from the briefing room, and towards
the armory, where he and his other Spec. Ops commandos would gear up
for deployment.
"Major Jackson, United States Marine Corps." Said Jackson to the
guard in front of the armory.
"Pass code?"
"Alfa, Zulu, Echo, six, eight, Romeo, niner."
"Access granted. The loadout for your team is located on the second
room on the right."
"Thank you Sergeant."
The men filed into the black padded room, weapons of various types
and sizes littered the tables set in the middle of the room. The
demolitions expert, Petty Officer First Class Manuel Ortega USN
(SEAL) could only get one word out... "Cooool!"
Captain Bremen moved quickly down the hall, back towards his drab
grey office. He had just finished his briefing of the fist of 7
teams prepping to be sent via the interstellar link back into what
was, or what seemed to be, the Star Wars universe.
"Hello Captain." Called an middle aged black male, dressed in robes
and what appeared to be a martial arts gi. He had a small cylinder
attached to his hip, and a power radiated around him so thick, that
you could almost touch it.
"Hello Master Windu. As I am sure you are aware, the reconnisance
teams have been debriefed. The Emperor, Palpatine, is dead, and so
is his empire. A new Republic has arisen under your student's
children, Luke and Leia Skywalker."
"Indeed, that is good news." He moved to sit, and passed a cup of
steaming coffee over to the Captain. "So, the arrangements are set
then? Two jedi for every team sent back?"
"That is correct. I assume you know, that the teams themselves are
going to be heavily armed, and are well trained in urban combat.
This is a necessity, seeing as the areas our recon teams landed,
none of them were friendly, and in three cases, the units barely
escaped intact, after vicious fighting."
"So I have heard. However, the projectile weapons you use, despite
their efficiency here, have no place in my universe. They don't
have half the power needed in a firefight there."
"Again, you are correct. But, in light of the situation, and the
ingenuity of your jedi scientists, we were able to construct several
energy weapon lines, using our models as a backup. Here, take a
look."
The captain set down a small carbine, roughly the size and shape of
the M4 in current use by the special forces. But that was where the
similarities stopped.
"In order to keep our people up to date, we basically kept the
original design purposes, and updated the firing mechanisms, so now
we have, instead of our 30-round clip, standard M4, we get a pulse
rifle, capable of semi-, burst, and full-auto, with a rate of fire
roughly double that of our current weapons. We were also able to do
the same with several of our other weapons. The only one we had
difficulty on, was the sniper's rifle. A pulse beam is too diffuse
to be able to do any long range firing, so we dissected one of your
lightsabers, and came up with this:" He held up a long-barreled, bi-
pod mounted rifle. "It fires a beam roughly the same diameter and
frequency as your lightsaber, which gives us the right beam
diffusion, capable of hitting a target up to 1/2 a mile away."
"Impressive."
"And we also added vibro-bayonets onto the end of all the carbines
and assault rifles. We have kept the grenades, per your suggestion,
and modified them to hold a magazine of 5."
"Most impressive."
`Now I know where Vader got his lines from.' Thought Bermen to
himself.
"Actually, I picked them up from watching the movie. Fascinating,
isn't it, how your Lucas was able to accurately transpose the holo-
records from the empire, and publicize them for your planet to
watch, oblivious to the reality of it all."
"Yes. Well, anyway, I have to get back to the intel commander, and
brief him, so if you excuse me."
"I will see you soon, captain." Said Master Windu, as he got up to
leave the room.
"See ya." Called Berman as he left his office, and headed down the
opposite direction from Windu, who was heading to meet up with the
second team.
Everything was going according to plan.
Chapter 3
Luke Skywalker gazed down from the top of the temples, looking out
over the vast expanse that was Yavin 4. It still somewhat bothered
him, that the trainees were back, and only a month after they had
destroyed the spirit of Exar Kun. He wouldn't tell the trainees
that, but it did sometimes invade his thinking. Especially at times
like these.
He sat on the edge of the temple, watching Mara's ship soar away
into the blazing dawn.
Mara, that was why he was here. He couldn't stand to see her go
away again.
In her `ultimate' wisdom, she had told him that the life of the jedi
would not be for her. She loved trading, but the jedi seemed too
boring for her. And foolhardy. So had she told Luke.
/Bye Mara, I hope you change your mind/ thought Luke. The contrast
between the lush jade of the forest, and the glowing red tint of the
dawn sky just made him more depressed. He just wanted someone to
talk to, someone who understood him.
"Good morning Master."
"Hello Kyp," said Luke, as he turned to face his student.
"Come, sit
down."
Kyp moved over and set down next to Luke. "Master, if you don't
mind my asking, why has Trader Jade's departure upset you so much?"
"It's nothing Kyp. I am not upset, just thinking."
"Ahh."
There was a few moments of silence before either spoke again.
"Well, Master, I have to get back to the others."
"Understood Kyp. How far is the run today?"
"About 50 kilometers. We thought the extra time would be good, and
Tionne could use the exercise, if you don't mind me saying so."
Luke's face turned into a smile. "Just don't let her hear you say
that."
"We shall be back later, Master Skywalker."
"Good, may the Force be with you."
Kyp turned and jogged down the stairs of the Massassi temple.
Ever since the incident with Exar Kun, Kyp had changed his outlook
on everything. He still despised the empire, but not so fiercely.
He began to take Luke's words on training not only mind, but body,
and had rapidly gained back his former stature and more. The two
new students, despite the confusion about the evil spirit, were both
sitting into the academy nicely.
A brief snap in the force jolted him out of his reverie. "What in
all sith hells???"
He got up, turned, and lept off of the side of the temple, seeing
that speed was of the essence. He knew the trainees were already
headed that way on their run, with a bit of a head start. Force
knew what would happen.
Chapter 4
"Sir, I believe we have arrived," called out one of the Rangers.
Another announced in a sing-song voice "Weee're Heere." `Wherever
here is,' he thought.
"Lets get a patrol set up. McPherson! Get your ass over here,
asap," called Captain Douglas to the group's sniper.
"Yes sir?"
"I want you set up and ready to work in 10 minutes, got it?"
"YES SIR!" McPherson moved over to one of the nearby trees, taking
in his surroundings.
"Sir, we appear to be on some kind of a jungle planet."
"Obviously, McPherson."
"Sir, our spatial coordinates from Earth identify this as the
planetary system of Yavin. We appear to be on the 4th moon."
"Thank God for those scanners that they gave us." Muttered Douglas.
The team slowly began to take in their surroundings, each looking a
little dumbstruck. They found themselves stuck in the middle of a
large thicket of, what looked to the captain, jungle canopy trees.
"Sanders, any word from HQ on the other teams?" asked Douglas to
First Sergeant Stephen Sanders, the squad's radioman.
"Sir, they are saying that they want us to find a sutible location
to send in the other teams. They were not expecting for us to land
in the middle of the jungle, and our friends back home want us to
have a clear, secure area to launch to."
"Roger. Let them know, we will keep on the 2-3-2 plan."
"Understood," replied the sergeant, as he relayed this info back to
the command center on Earth.
The troops had all now fanned out to cover the maximum amount of
territory they could defend.
As the hours went by, the pairs began to dig in foxholes, and set up
light fortifications, in the event on enemy contact. Their radio
plan, the 2-3-2 plan, allowed them to report in at irregular
intervals, thus keeping their communications secure. The team's two
machinegunners, armed with the modified SAWs, had already mounted
their weapons on bipods, and were now digging in shallow firing
pits, with which would give them some cover from enemy fire, if it
were to occur. The team's sniper, McPherson, was situated in a
tree, 1/2 a klick away from the forward line.
The radioman heard a buzz on his headset, indicating someone was
transmitting. He leaned in to hear, at the same time waving over
the Captain.
"Six, this is point. Over"
"Point, six, over."
"Sir, we have approaching personnel. Classify as friendly, over."
"Size?"
"Approximately 10 or so. Wait, someone is running up to them. Six,
I think they know we're here."
"Where are they headed?"
"Right to the front door."
"Ok. Do not fire unless attacked. How are they armed?"
"I see no weapons in evidence, over"
"Roger point, keep on the lookout. Update every 5 min. over"
"Roger six, point out."
Luke Skywalker caught up swiftly to the group, which hadn't even
begun the run yet. He jogged up to Kyp's side, and catching the
look in his eye, knew that Kyp had sensed the same disturbance he
had. Looking around at the assembled Jedi, he noticed all had the
far-away look of someone searching in the force. All except the two
new students, who appeared confused and agitated. He headed over to
them.
"Master, what is going on?" asked the young female Zabrak. She had
only started her stay here yesterday, and had little grasp of the
living force. "I feel something isn't right, but I can't for the
life of me tell what it is."
"Me too, master. Something feels, I don't know, elusive, I guess."
The young male twilek, his leuku twitching, had been here for almost
a week. He had been found on the way back to Yavin from Couescant,
his ship disabled.
His cry for help in the force had transcended the hyperspace lines
and Luke, trusting his feelings, had dropped out of hyperspace just
in time to pull the young twilek out of his shuttle. When he had
registered that this young male was the one who had sent the plea
for help, he immediately questioned him about his talents, and found
out that this was the nephew of the great Master Secura.
"There is a disturbance in the force. Someone has come here by
means of the force, and those of us sensitive to the force,
including you, are feeling it. It is not a large disturbance, but
big enough to be noticed by all here."
He called to Kam and Kyp, who were standing at the head of the group
of Jedi. "Do you want to go and introduce ourselves, or would you
like to stay here?"
"Master, it may be to our benefit for us all to go. I feel the pull
of the force over there, and with this many Jedi, if they were
enemies, it would not last long. There appears to be only about 10
or so," replied Kam.
"12," stated Kyp, with a smug grin on his face.
Kam turned to Kyp, "Whatever. It doesn't really matter now, does
it." He started to walk past Kyp, then rose up his leg, and kicked
Kyp in the rear.
Grinning, Kyp turned to Kam, "Why I outa..." and gave Kam a force
shove, knocking him on his back. He reached out a hand to help Kam
up. "Even?"
"Nah," grinned Kam. "I'll get you next time."
"Ok, you two," laughed Luke. "Behave."
Kam and Kyp had been good-naturedly taunting and teasing one another
since Kyp had returned from the darkside. Both felt it a good way
to let off steam, and keep the training lighthearted. Luke had
agreed, and felt it would only benefit them if the Jedi themselves,
trainees, and even the outside populace, were to see them as
ordinary beings.
"Let's go greet our guests," said Luke, as he headed off through
the
trees towards what seemed to be an encampment. As he got within
visual range, he called up into one of the trees, "You can come out,
we are friends."
He heard a loud sigh, then a human male, dressed in what looked
strikingly like the Alliance's old battle fatigues, slid down the
tree trunk, a large blaster rifle slung over his shoulder. A large
net was slung over his shoulder, with large amounts of string and
such hanging from it, with foliage clinging to it. `Sniper,'
thought Luke. `Interesting.'
As he reached the ground, he was seen speaking into what appeared to
be a collar-mounted com. "Six, point. They found me. I am RTB
with them. They appear, and have called themselves, friendly." He
waited a second, apparently listening to something, then sent back a
reply, "Right Six, point RTB, Out." The man gestured to Luke and
his group, and with a resigned voice, called them to follow.
Chapter 5
Luke walked forward with a different appearance from the past few
years. With the realization that he was dealing with a foreign
military presence, he decided to approach the situation from a
military perspective. His students noticed his sudden shift, as his
back went saber-straight, and his face became even more impassive
than his `jedi-master face'.
They noted the changes, and resolved to ask him what they were about
when they got the chance.
For most of them, their secluded training on Yavin left them little
outside influence. They had little interaction with the outside
world. When Master Skywalker had appealed to them to train them in
the ways of the force, none of them (except Corran and Mara) knew
anything substantial about his background. He was seen as the jedi
of the rebellion, no-one making the connection between the Luke
Skywalker, Jedi, to Red 5, the pilot who destroyed the Death Star,
over this very moon.
So all were curious when upon arrival, when the master suddenly
stood at attention, and barked out, "Commander Luke Skywalker, New
Republic Fighter Command."
Captain Douglas looked up from his maps towards the approaching
band. He heard the voice of Skywalker, and moved over to greet him.
"Commander Skywalker, I am Captain Erwin Douglas, United States
Army. I am pleased to meet you."
Skywalker returned the salute crisply, and offered his hand. "On
behalf of the New Republic, and the Jedi Order, I welcome you to
Yavin IV."
"Thank you, Commander. As you can tell, we are a bit new around
here."
"We felt you phase in here. How did that happen? You didn't come
by ship or such. By the way, what is the United States? Where is
it?"
"Well, first things first," grinned Douglas, "We were
teleported
here with the help of some Jedi. They have been living in our
galaxy for the past 25 years. We are from the Planet Earth, in the
milky way galaxy."
Skywalker turned pale. "Jedi? Who? How?" His sudden loss of
composure, and the urgent need to sit down overwhelmed him. He sunk
down to a log, and placed his hands on his head.
Suddenly a voice entered his mind. You ok, Skywalker? You seem a
bit, on edge.
Luke recognized the voice of his favorite ex-imperial assassin. I'm
fine Jade. Just a bit surprised. I thought you left?
She laughed. I'm back at the praxeum. I returned after I felt the
disturbance in the force. Leia is on her way as well, along with
Han and the kids. What is going on? Where are you?
Luke sighed. He hadn't even felt her come back. `Some jedi I am'
he snorted to himself.
A voice from his side startled him back into his senses.
"Commander, are you alright?"
"Yes Captain Douglas, I am fine. You can call me Luke."
"Sir, protocol..."
"I am retired, so it is fine with me."
"Yes sir, I mean Luke. You can call me Ernie. All of my friends
back home do."
LUKE!!! The mental shout surprised him. He hadn't answered Mara
yet. Wasn't very happy with him.
He sent out the location back to her, and then with Captain... Ernie,
at his side, began to examine the surroundings.
It was one of the larger thickets, with only small irregular patches
of light filtering through. He noted how the squad had deployed
itself, ready to ambush any attacker from several different
directions. `They're certainly professionals' he thought, as he
noted the firing pits, and the claymore mines. He walked over to
one, and examined it closely.
"Luke, that isn't really a smart thing to do. Playing with live
mines is not a good idea."
"What exactly does it do?" asked Luke, as he sat on his haunches
near the claymore.
"Well, it is a block of explosive, with lots of little metal balls
to act as shrapnel. From about where you are, if it were to
detonate, it would leave a hole in your back roughly the size of
your feet."
"Nasty," grimaced Luke. He did not like to kill. He knew it was
nessasary, but avoided it wherever possible. But the tools of war
had always interested him. He thought back to Mara, who was on her
way, and how much she would like these weapons.
"We have one more person coming, and then we can head back out to
the temple. I am sure you would like to contact the regional
government, as well as get your people some good food and..." Luke was
cut off as Kam snorted. Tionne stared at the Jedi Master, and Kyp
was rolling on the ground, laughing like a madman. The rest just
looked at Luke, with varying smirks on their faces.
Kam looked over to the assembled troops, who were now grabbing their
gear, and stowing it for travel. "Good food? Master, when was the
last time we had good food? You can't cook, and neither can
Tionne. How we survive on what you two concoct is nothing short of
amazing.
Tionne looked at Kam, "Hey! My cooking is not bad! I would like to
see you try to do the cooking for us, oh great leader!"
Kyp by now was back on his feet, his laughter slowly dieing down.
He shook his head. "Tionne, have you actually ever eaten your own
cooking?"
She stared at her feet, her posture answer enough.
Luke butted in, and explained the situation at the Jedi temple to
the soldiers, along with who he was, and who his companions were.
When he started to explain the food situation, a tall, lanky blonde
woman interrupted him. "Master Skywalker, I believe I can help
there. I was sent in with the team to aid in cooking and finding a
good source of food for the team. I believe that I can be of
service to you all."
Luke looked over at the taller woman, and caught a sense in the
force of something. She seemed to have a certain force ability, but
not enough to be a Jedi. "And you are?"
"Lieutenant Julie Harding. I'm an empath, so I can feel what you
are seeing Master Skywalker. No, I can't touch the force as you
say, but I can pick up and read emotions easily." She grinned at
him.
Kirana Ti laughed, having overheard the two. She knew what it was
like having an empath around. Many of the Dathomir Witches had such
powers.
After the group gathered together, and the rest of the introductions
exchanged, the small band headed back towards the temple, meeting
Mara halfway.
One of the better parts of being an empath, thought Harding, was the
abundant natural shields preventing her from having her thoughts
read. She didn't project, and her natural walls wouldn't let anyone
in. Which was especially useful now, considering the feelings she
was receiving from both Luke and Jade.
When Luke had introduced them, she was surprised to find out that
they were not together. Their emotions were frighteningly similar,
but both protested vehemently against any suggestion that they were
a couple. She sensed a love between them, and a stronger sexual
attraction between them than anyone she had ever met. But
apparently neither of them realized it. Either that, or they were
lying.
She was situated near the back of the group, busily chatting away
with a bunch of the Jedi. She used this time to ask many questions
about Luke, and his relationship with the beautiful, exotic trader.
The students informed her about Mara's original goal to kill
Skywalker, and all but one couldn't even see them civil in the same
room together, let alone a couple. All but Kyp.
For some undefinable reason, with the history she had just heard
about that consumed the past few months, he saw past the master's
charade. He saw the jedi's deep longing for Mara, and his growing
feelings towards her. But Mara was an unknown to him.
"Kyp, she has feelings for him," she said quietly. They were the
last pair in the long column of people moving back to the temple. "I
felt them when we met up in the forest."
Kyp, leaning back and stretching, replied softly, "Yeah, but she
probably doesn't even realize that herself. And if she did, she
would never admit it."
"Good." A plan began to form in her mind. She had to get the
master, alone.
"What do you mean?" asked Kyp. He had heard the muttered comment,
and now wanted to find out what was on this curious woman's mind.
"Oh, nothing." She replied with an air of innocence. "Nothing at
all."
Han Solo leaned back in the pilot's chair of the Millenium Falcon.
His frustration was apparent, despite the attempt to look relaxed.
His white knuckled stretch gave away his frustration at being
stranded in the middle of Courescant space port for half an hour,
waiting for clearance.
Finally a com call came through, allowing them to leave.
"It took long enough," Solo muttered to his copilot for the trip.
Chewbacca had come back from Kashyyk to accompany his honor family
and guard them against any possible attack.
Also accompanying them was Page and a team of 10 commandos, in an
assault shuttle, which had left only moments before theirs. After
the attempts on Leia and the children, the New Republic had the
sense to send well armed and well trained bodyguards to assist if
anything went wrong.
Leia had received a com from Mara earlier that day, asking her to
come to Yavin. It was only minutes after she had sensed a stirring
in the force. She had learned to trust that inner feeling, and so
had called off of her schedule for the next few days. Mon Mothma
agreed to get a temporary assistant, as she too had learned the hard
way that Leia was usually correct with her force hunches.
`But this is a bit much,' thought Leia, as she moved to the lounge.
She wanted to do some thinking, and figured a game of Holochess
would loosen up her mind.
"Let's see," said her husband, as he entered the room, "we have
enough of a force here to rival an Imperial assault. "We have Page
and his guys, Me, Chewie, the Noghiri, Rouge Squadron, Wraith
Squadron, and two Freedom class frigates. All we need is Ackbar and
some cruisers, and we could go attack the imps on their own turf."
"Han, you know there was nothing I could do about it. Mon Mothma
insisted. All I could do was..." "Smile and nod, dear, yeah, I
know,"
interrupted Han. "It just seems a bit extreme though. All on one
of your `hunches' from your brother's `hokey religion'" he
commented, twirling his finger in the air.
Just then 3PO showed up. "Captain Solo, Captain Solo, Mistress Mara
has sent a communiqu?rom the Jedi academy at Yavin." He handed a
datapad over to Solo, and then wandered out of the room.
"What is it?" asked Leia.
"You get to play diplomat again," Han said with a smirk.
Leia's head slumped into her hands, "Why me?" she asked forlorn.
Chapter 6
"Admiral Dalla, we have arrived at Yavin IV," Ensign Tomlinson
reported, having had the distinct displeasure of being Dalla's
personal aide-de-camp. She turned from the viewscreen, and looked
sharply at him. "And? My orders were specific, Ensign. Begin the
landing."
Ensign Tomlinson turned crisply away, and moved to the
commstation. "Attention Landing Parties, Mission Jedi Slayer is go,
I repeat Jedi Slayer is go."
Four decks below, Imperial Stormtroopers checked the charges on
their blasters, and moved into position on the assault shuttles.
Ties lifted off first, to provide a landing cover. Tie Bombers had
already left, and were striking the Jedi Academy even as the Assualt
shuttles took off. Orbital bombardment was out of the question,
since a magnetic field emmited by the planet Yavin, would make
targeting completely unpredictable.
In the forests below, the Jedi and their new companions, felt the
ground shake. Mara looked at Luke, then to the Special Forces Team
commander, and grabbed his binocs from his body armor. She raised
them up, and grunted. Twenty or so Tie bombers were leveling the
ground outside the praxeum, their bombs didn't seem to have any
affect on the temple itself.
Suddenly a roar over their heads made them look up. The Falcon came
in for a quick divelanding, guided by Leia's sense of her brother.
Unfortunately for the group, the Falcon's Hyperdrive was faster then
her escorts, so they might not arrive for another few hours. But
Page and his group, along with the Noghiri, hopped out of the ship,
even before it landed.
"Luke!" Page shouted. "We're gonna have to take `em on the
ground. We don't have any air cover yet, and the others won't be
here for another few hours."
"Paige, meet Captain Douglas, United States Army Rangers. Captain
Douglas, this is Lieutenant Judder Page, New Republic Special
Forces. This is his unit, the Katarn Commandos."
The two men exchanged handshakes, and went off to discuss what they
would do about the Imperials.
As the others talked among themselves, Page suddenly stood up and
ran over to Luke. "Skywalker, we have a line for reinforcements.
Their army has pledged an entire division in case of an emergency.
I suggest we use it. There is a clearing about three klicks back
that would do nicely." "Agreed. Okay everyone, you heard the
Lieutenant, let's move."
Leia and Han chose that moment to show up. They were quickly
introduced, and after discussing what the plan was, they both
unslung blaster rifles they had over their shoulders. "Chewie's
back at the Falcon, guarding the kids. He should be fine there. We
can be of use down here though." One of the US Army troops took
that moment to respond, "Sir, we have extra gear in these cases,
assorted styles of uniform and armor, along with extra weaponry, if
you're interested?" The Jedi conferred, and quickly made up their
minds. Since only 5 of them had lightsabers, they armed the rest
with the modified rifles, and all put on the body armor and
camouflage clothing.
Luke, formerly dressed in his brown robes, now looked quite
fearsome, in his camouflage gear. It reminded him of the cape he
wore at endor, only it was an entire flightsuit of it, not just the
cape. He and the others also put on the same types of packs and
stuff the rest of the unit had, and drew weapons. Mara turned to
look at Luke, after tying her hair into a long ponytail. `Gods he
looks good'. Luke apparently picked up on her thought, cause he
turned bashfully towards her, with a wan smile. She then noticed his
face was painted the same as the rest of the troops, in greens and
browns and black streaks. He looked like a professional, she had to
admit.
The US Army Sergeant quickly went over how to use the weapons to the
less experienced Jedi. He showed them how to use the grenades and
claymores.
Being jedi, they picked it up very quickly.
The entire group joined up at the clearing, which was quite a large
one. Douglas, having heard about the walkers and such, decided to
call for helicopters and tanks first, followed by more infantry.
A minute after the call was made, 15 M1A2 Abrams tanks, and 20
Bradley fighting vehicles were phased in, along with close to 70
helicopters of different types. Troops jumped out of the back of the
Bradleys, and rushed to join the rest of the fighters near the
trees.
A chain of command was quickly set up, with the Colonel in charge of
the regiment as head, and the other units as advisors. The
Blackhawk helicopters were set up to do fastrope, and would land
troops on top of the walkers and assault shuttles, allowing them to
destroy them with explosive charges.
Two fighter wings of F-15's and another of F-16s also quickly
phased in. By the time the forces were assembled, the Imperials
were at the temple. The Jedi, New Republic troops, and the rest of
the groundfighters assembled in the fighting vehicles, and in the
choppers. By now, Rogue and Wraith Squadrons, along with the NR
