Extinction Finale
Okay, here it is. The first part of my next Fic. As the title says the
Finale.
Disclaimer: Star Wars does not belong to me and I'm not make a single penny
off this.
Luke Naberrie sat down from the new Chief of State. With his past they
had decided to insert him within politics, an assistant or something. He sat
with straight spine and a tilt to his head that had been identified with a
superior attitude that was normal for those in politics. Luke's hair had
grown long and was secured by a band at the nape of his neck. The length and
the brown dye helped disguise him, as did the glasses that he wore. The
small frames weren't prescription but they contained a small microchip that
helped him during his spy work. He doubted anyone would recognize him from
old holos but he had the force just in case.
"You have the job, your qualifications have cleared."
"Thank you sir," Luke said with a slight bow. He wasn't the least bit
surprised after all his qualifications were set up so he would be accepted.
"I'll call a guide up to show you to your room."
"Thank you sir."
Luke entered the room that he was led to and sagged into the deep
large bed. It had been so long since he had last been lying in the lap of
luxury.
Anakin Skywalker raised an eyebrow at Mara Jade. "I take it the
Yuuzhan Vong are bad."
"Almost succeeded in turning everyone against the Jedi, taking over
the Galaxy, and exterminating the Jedi."
"So basically they're the Emperor all over again."
"Watch it, you served him."
"So did you."
"So we're both to blame."
"Luke's the one that exterminated the Jedi so not my fault."
"On your orders. I can't be blamed for what I did on the Emperor's
orders then Luke can't be blamed for what he did on yours."
"Does this argument have any logic behind it?"
"None at all."
"What's do different about these Vong that make them so bad?"
"It's an entire species, they're a lot smarter than stormtroopers, and
they can't be sensed through the Force."
"Sounds like those things from Zonama Sekot."
"That's because they are. What do you know about them?"
"Absolutely nothing."
"You know something about everything Anakin," a voice said from behind
them. Mara turned to face a woman. She had to be maybe near thirty and it
seemed to Mara that she was staring in a mirror that distorted reality. The
Woman was a good six inches taller than her and she was blond-haired and
blue-eyed as opposed to Mara's red hair and green eyes.
"Who are you now."
"That is Kanas, she was once Luke's fiancée."
"What?"
"Who are you?"
"Mara Jade, Luke's wife."
"Oh really, Jade hmm, Mathius' daughter. I'm surprised he didn't kill
you."
"Not to mention hers," Anakin muttered.
"You're old Jedi order. Is Luke that old?"
"Dear, he's old enough to be your father."
"He's even older than me," Anakin said with a grin.
"Not to mention taller and better looking."
"Yeah right."
"It's the truth Anakin."
"Sure, you always take his side," Anakin growled.
It had been several months after the disastrous mission when Luke had
proposed to Kanas getting disastrous results. She had flat out refused him
letting him know rather brutally that she was pregnant; she was pregnant
with Mathius' daughter. He hated Mathius, he knew that hate wasn't a good
emotion for a Jedi but he couldn't help it. How many times had he heard
Master Yoda or Master Windu drilling into his head the same thing? *Fear
leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to the darkside. *
But what did it matter? He wouldn't turn; he wasn't a Jedi anymore,
was he? Could he turn even though he no longer called himself a Jedi? No, he
was still a Jedi even how hard he tried to discourage himself of the fact.
He was one of the thieving, scheming, lying, cheating Jedi. He wanted
Mathius to die and that was of the darkside but he no longer cared.
Luke groaned as he snapped awake and glanced at his chrono. It was a
new day and a new mission. There was no reason to dwell on things long past.
He got to his feet and quickly cleaned himself up and dressed then left for
the Chief of State's office.
"We only have one choice. The government won't stand up to the
'programmed' so four of will return to the world of the living. We'll be
working in pairs. Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi and Mara Jade and
Kanas Denit."
Anakin and Obi-Wan gave deflated sighs but accepted it. Kanas and Mara
reacted more aggressively though.
"What?"
"No way Mace, I'm not going with her."
"No, I refuse!"
"Shut up!"
"You slut!"
"How dare you, you Imp whore!"
As they continued screaming vulgar insults at each other Anakin Solo
grinned at a few of the other Jedi, "anybody wanna place a bet?"
Luke took a step back and blocked as Deacile swung at him. Luke
twisted his arm behind his back and forced him to the ground. Deac sat on
the ground rubbing his sore arm and glanced up at him. "The scientists
think
the government will form into chaos if the chief of state was suddenly
killed."
"Yes, perhaps they would but I have a better idea."
"You going to take the entire capitol down?"
"You know me too well, besides why shouldn't I? The Vong don't want it
intact. They just want the land."
"Good point, but how are you going to do this?"
Luke grinned. "We don't want any of these people to survive do we?"
"No, you're thinking of some sort of biological weapon?"
Luke pulled a small vial out of his jacket pocket. "Do me a favor and
dump this in the water source. You work in purification still, don't you?"
"Yeah, no problem."
Deac poured the contents of the small vial into the water when no one
was looking. The capitol planet of the government was the source of all the
water in their government. He had never thought it would be that easy but he
guessed it could never be that hard.
Dera hoisted the sniper rifle onto the ledge and laid down as she
leveled it at the figure inside the large luxurious apartment. She saw a
small pinpoint of light flash from the top of the building opposite her. Her
cue to fire. She pulled the trigger and the thin bolt lanced through the
man's spine.
Mara glanced around the crowded city. Something had happened and she
knew it was too late to stop the conquest. The Chief of State had been
killed. A high-class man brushed roughly past her. He was probably a senator
or something. The man had long light brown hair that was pulled back at the
nape of his neck and narrow framed glasses. She also noticed that he was far
above average height. He was probably the tallest human Mara had seen.
"That's Luke," Kanas whispered.
"How do you know?"
"You can tell by his stance, the way he holds himself. He's always
been like that. Besides I don't know any other person that's that tall."
Mara glanced at the blond woman suddenly knowing why Mace had paired
them together. They were dealing with Luke Naberrie, not Skywalker and Mara
knew nothing about Naberrie while Kanas had once been engaged to him. Each
of them had known a different side of him and they would have to work
together in order to save both him and the galaxy.
"Do you know what's going," Anakin asked his former master.
"I don't know everyone seems to be upset about something. Perhaps a
great leader died."
"Sure, why would people be mourning then?" Anakin asked after being
too accustomed to being under the Emperor and corrupt Chancellors.
"I don't know."
"Good day gentlemen," a figure in clothes of a higher class person
said to Anakin and Obi-Wan.
They glanced warrily at the figure but too late as they noticed the
man had a weapon in his hand that he injected both of them with faster than
they could move.
Kanas inhaled sharply suddenly and Mara turned curtly towards her.
"Anakin and Obi-Wan, they're dead."
"Dead? How?"
"He killed them."
"Who killed them? Who's he?"
"Luke."
"You've lost it, Luke wouldn't kill a friend."
"Wouldn't he? He killed his master and hundreds of Jedi with out so
much as batting an eyelash in despair. Mara, you don't know what he's really
like. Some say he was the one pulling the Emperor's strings. All I know for
certain is when he turned he became heartless."
"I'm not going to listen to you. All you want is for me to leave so
you can have Luke all to yourself without any competition. Isn't that
right?" Kanas denied it vehemently put Mara just muttered, "of course
it's
right."
"I'm telling you this because the Luke you're used to was just an act.
You need to be prepared for what he's going to be like. If he'd kill Anakin
and Obi-Wan do you think we're exempt from that fate?"
"Before you said you were surprised he didn't kill me. What did you
mean by that?"
Kanas lowered her gaze then began. "Luke once had a close friend named
Mathius. We were all on our final mission together before Luke and Anakin
went over to the darkside. Mathius was married but he was jealous or Luke
because he wanted me I suppose. Near the end of the mission he raped me and
Luke almost killed him. I had been engaged to Luke at that time and when I
found I was pregnant I refused to marry him. I had a daughter and handed her
over to Mathius' wife. She was to be raised never knowing of me. She bore
Mathius' last name, not mine. For the next few years I watched her grow up
and I was given her back when the Emperor's assassins came. His agents took
the child and did away with me."
Mara glanced at Kanas in realization. "He was my father. Mathius was
my father. Is that why Luke cared for me? Because I reminded him of you?"
"I don't know. He hated Mathius after that day and swore to kill him.
He belittled me and grew angry with me because I didn't have an abortion so
he hated you for the reason you existed.
Okay, here we go, here's the final part.
Luke paced past the single prisoner that cowered before him. One of
the few remaining living beings of the Republic. The pathetic creatures knew
nothing more than they already knew and that wasn't going to help them much.
One of the 'programmers' appeared behind Luke and watched his
progress. Luke left the room and joined his creator. "She's giving us
nothing that we don't already know."
"And the rest of them?"
"Nothing."
"Kill them, kill them all."
"Yes Master," Luke said with a slight bow of his head and he backed up
slightly.
"The soldiers that were created for us are fine. They won this war for
us, but honestly they are out of date. We want a new breed of soldiers made
for us. A new breed for a new world."
"But, what about the old soldiers?"
"They can be disposed of."
"Of course."
As he watched the warmaster leave the lead scientist took a small
remote out of his lab coat pocket and stared at it. A remote self-destruct
for every one of the 'Programmed'. He truly didn't know if he had the will
to push the button. This was his life work. He also removed a small vial. If
his life's work were to be destroyed, He would end his life along with it.
He had carried on the work of his father and grandfather but now it would
end.
He pulled out a comlink and keyed it on, "573, I need to speak to you.
Please come to my office."
"Are you sure this is the right place?"
"I have been here before Mara," Kanas growled trying to discourage her
daughter's questioning. As she leaned forward to glance out a vent Mara
leaned against her and Kanas lost her balance falling through the now open
vent and right at Luke's feet.
"Some how this doesn't surprise me."
"What is that? An escaped prisoner?"
"No an allie," Luke said as he turned back towards the large Yuuzhan
Vong.
"It is an enemy," the Vong said as it swung bak an amphistaff and
brought it to contact Luke's skull. Luke grabbed the end and flipped it over
bringing the Vong down onto the floor.
"I have a message from my creator. You've lost, you'll never win. You
might order the deaths of all of us but we will win." Luke brought a hand
down and shattered it's skull with a single blow. "I'm sorry you had to see
that."
"is that how you killed the Jedi?"
"No, that was mercy compared to what I did to the Jedi." Luke helped
Kanas to her feet silently then glanced up at the hole in the ceiling.
"Jade
you can come down, I'm not going to kill you, yet."
"That's so comforting."
"Both of you must leave before it's too late."
"What is going on? I thought you worked for them?"
"I did until they ordered our execution."
"You seem to turn sides awfully quickly."
"No, it's just hard to win my loyalty."
Kanas glanced towards the area they had just left. They were knocked
over as a shock shook the ground.
"What was that?"
"We have to go back."
"There's no reason for you to, for either of you. Your assignment is
finished."
"Mace we lost everything."
"Not, everything. You succeeded in what you were meant to."
The blood dripped from Luke's face as he faced the Yuuzhan Vong that
stood over him. He knew this was to end with the end of his life. Or at
least that's what he had thought but he was wrong.
"573B, you are a fool. Did you think that a single person could
destroy us? You were created to serve and you will serve us."
"I won't serve you, I'm not one of your lackeys. I am a Jedi."
The Vong smashed Luke's face again and he fell backwards struggling to
breath. He knew who and what he was. He was a Jedi and would always be. As
the Vong grabbed his arms and dragged him into a dark prison cell he didn't
know how long he would be there but he knew it would be a long time. They
had won this time but he still had hope. He was a Jedi.
