WARNING: THIS STORY IS RATED NC-17 Not
long ago, a group of authors of the Open
Scrolls Archive gathered and started a Virtual Village
based on the premise of a new world that resembled Middle Earth but wasn't
Tolkien's Middle Earth. It was an Alternate Universe, where time and space
had little meaning : This is the story of some of their citizens, it involves how Legolas got the mate he didn't want and Mirë found what she wasn't looking for. In
the wrong place at the right time
Disclaimer: None of the characters you know is mine. Actually, only M. is mine. Immense thanks to Panneth for her quick beta, to Mora, Andreth and Sind for their ideas and bouncing and to Viv, the better half of my brain. I am rating this NC17 for later , just in case I manage to write some worthy smut. Chapter 1 - Things you find in the park at night Legolas Greenleaf looked around carefully with immense distrust, for this world he had walked into with a distinct assignment. He hoped that Daeron would find his chosen mate soon. This was not his first journey to the strange place, but his father’s instructions to accompany and assist the males from Imedhuir in their incursions made him think of the time he would be the one having to look for a female to bring back to the Valley. The women brought back already had been carefully chosen by the men and elves; each one a jewel in their own way - lovely, intriguing and at the same time exciting for the fortunate ones who had selected them among million of people. If Legolas tried to form in his mind an image of the ideal mate for him, he seemed to be able to give his hopes and yearnings a real shape. He admired beauty, as did every elf, but he had also come to treasure boldness in spirit and an independent soul, like he had seen in Eowyn of Rohan. On the other hand, he had met so many mortal and elven females in his life that if he had to bring his favorite traits together he could not decide if there was any female that could embody them. Treading lightly on the unfamiliar ground, he followed Daeron at a distance to ensure that they were not seen or discovered by anyone of the place called Earth. Once they had located the female Daeron wanted, they had to act as silently and swiftly as possible, return to the Valley unnoticed and not leave any trace of their presence behind. Since Daeron seemed to be taking his time, Legolas searched for a place to be able to settle as comfortably as possible and still watch the other elf’s back. And the tree not far away from him seemed to be the ideal spot. *********** Marian was actually singing softly at the same time as she tried to focus on controlling her respiration while jogging through the park. Jogging was boring enough, especially if you chose to do it because you wouldn’t fit in your favorite jeans anymore, which led to the ridiculous assumption that there were a couple of pounds she should lose. She loved the park, not jogging through it but taking long walks and then sitting on the grass with a good book … and no company at all. In fact, her life was as busy and full as it could be, assuming she had already resigned herself to the fact that she had no luck when she tried to start a relationship and then spent the rest of her meager spare time flying from the well-meaning friends who always tried to hook her up with the most bizarre dates. So she had accepted her solitude and traded it for a more-or-less successful job; a cat; and a terrible proclivity to gain weight in the most unflattering places of her anatomy, which led her thoughts back to her current situation. ‘Breathing, breathing …’ she told herself, while her mind returned to the lyrics of the song playing on her disc-man. It was already dark, but Marian didn’t mind running at night. The park’s solitude had never seemed threatening to her, but rather soothed, and there was no one to bother her nightly exercise but a couple of stray dogs. She looked at her watch and considered that she had at least 20 minutes of jogging and two thirds of the park ahead, when she saw a shadow move between the trees, then a glint of moonlight reflecting on someone moving. She didn’t stop abruptly, but slowly deviated her course towards the next tree and stood by the trunk, switching off her Disc man, and her hand flying to the small can of mace in her pocket, while she frantically looked towards the spot where she had seen the movement. Marian’s heart beat so loudly that she thought her head would burst from the thumping, and commanded herself to take a deep breath, while she waited. And there it was - a tall, light figure emerged from the trees carrying another person in his arms, obviously a man carrying a woman. When she saw them walk in her direction, thoughts of possible courses of action crossed her mind, and she thought to do what she wished someone would do for her should she ever be in the unconscious woman’s position: try to save her. They were closer now and she could see the face of an impossibly handsome blonde man, who was the one carrying an unconscious young woman with brown hair. She hesitated a minute before actually gathering her strength to attack, distracted by the looks of the kidnapper.Counting to three in her head, Marian leapt from her hiding place, intending to tackle the man and zap him with her mace. She never saw the other shadow that jumped from the tree and sent her to the ground until she felt the hard earth against her face and a body’s weight against her back. In desperation she managed to turn and tried to jam her knee against the attacker’s groin. As easily as he had sent her to the ground, the man (she thought it was someone too tall and hard to be a woman) shifted, eluding her knee, and with a secure jab sent her into unconsciousness. ********* Legolas had been watching Daeron get hold of his prize and run towards him and their escape route to the gate, when he had felt that something was wrong, and seen the stranger appear from behind a tree and charge against the running elf. Legolas calculated the distance and jumped to the next tree, attacking the stranger before he got close to Daeron and his bride. Once he had managed to throw the aggressor to the ground by sheer force and weight, he had not expected the assailant to try to unman him, so he quickly moved to the side and knocked him unconscious. It was then, when Daeron stood at his side and he was checking the heartbeat of the unknown adversary that he noticed it was a female. Impossibly dressed, for elven standards, but a woman nevertheless. “What do we do with him?” asked Daeron. “Her, it is a woman. She saw you and the way you were abducting your lady. We cannot risk her telling others,” he said, inspecting the small can in the woman’s closed fist. “This seems like some kind of weapon. Very intriguing.” "You will kill her?" Daeron asked coldly. Legolas was close to rolling his eyes.“Of course not. I do not kill women.” Daeron wanted to leave the place as swiftly as possible. He had his prize asleep in his arms and did not relish the thought of a longer argument with the Thranduilion."But Thranduil gave specific instructions. We have to leave now." “I know the rules. There isn’t much we can do at this moment, except take her with us back through the gate,” decided the archer. “But she is not a chosen mate. The King …” started Daeron again. “I
will take the responsibility for her. And confront my father," said Legolas
decidedly and lay the unconscious attacker across his shoulder, turning
away from Daeron and walking quickly towards the gate.
