Re: Shallow Gene Pool By: B. (AKA CancerMoonn) |
I may have some qualms about offending anyone that is genetically at a loss, however, for the most part of it, I can fully understand your point. Todays society leaves something to be desired when you consider the infant mortality rate and longevity we have these days. the threat of over population in the world increases with each passing breath, and Western civilization, as we know it, seems to be tipping the scales NOT in the favor of humanity. While I understand that it is a human need to preserve the species, we must know where to draw the proverbial line in the sand. We sit back and see people clinging to life support against their wills due to selfish wantings of loved ones. We see pro-life activists vying for drug abusive mothers to keep their already-addicted unborn children. We stand silent in the face of the future, hoping and crossing our fingers that the resources will last forever. We ache for the good of mankind, and yet we still exponentially increase the speed of which we are sealing our fate. Don't get me wrong... I am thankful of my health on a daily basis, but it's not due to the visits to the doctor at the first sign of a sniffle. For the most part of things, I fend off the use of anti-biotics unless it is a last resort. I'm doing my part to not perpetuate the superiority of viruses. I believe that a lot of staying healthy is centered around common sense... dietary intake, exercise, not stressing, (not smoking.. ed.) etc. Like you implied in your posting... it's not nature's way of taking care of things if she is worked against at every turn, and while our intentions may be honest and good, we are grasping at straws to work against what IS the natural course of things. Society tends to forget that there were certain rules that were set within our DNA to determine our eye colour, our shade of skin, our height and weight... AND to some degree (external factors excluded, of course) when our bodies will 'shut down'. We are so informed with all that technology has to offer that we are blind to the fundamental ways of existence. Science has left us out of touch from things that were so functionally simple to deal with... the human body. They have dissected each purpose for things to the point that we have lost sight of the natural way of "being". Maybe what we need to do, as a collective, is take a step back and remember WHERE exactly to draw that aforementioned line. Find where it is that we need to stop preserving ourselves by increasing quantity of life and then perhaps START looking at increasing quality of life. |
