Currently our top of the line fighter/interceptor, the rugged Corsair is currently held in limited numbers, but is used for combat air patrol in nearly every major military operation. The Corsair has a colorful past. In ancient times, during World War II, the Japanese called it the whistling death, due to it's unique whistling noise it makes in a dive. |
While not the glamorous looking fighter like the Corsair or the Air Force's Mustang, the Wildcat makes up the bulk of naval aviation's fighter forces. A durable little fighter, the Wildcat has proven itself in service to untold countries the world wide. It's rough field and carrier capability make more versatile than the P-40 Warhawk and thus more desirable for the Djibouti armed forces. |
The Dauntless is one of the best attack aircraft of its time and without question the best dive bomber of the era. Used primarily for dive-bombing ships at sea, the Dauntless is also excellent for attacks on armor columns and artillery implacements. |
Designed primarily as a torpedo bomber, the Avenger has tremendous range for a single engine aircraft and is an excellent long range carrier based patrol aircraft. The Avenger's varied armament and three crew members make it a quite effective aircraft. The admirals of the Djibouti Navy are very excited by the prospect of obtaining more of these planes. |
The flying boat known as the Catalina has had a long and colorful history over the past 150 years. From it's early inception as a long range patrol aircraft based from both seaplane tenders and from land bases, to use as a fashionable business aircraft, to fighting fires, the Catalina has proven itself time and time again to be a rugged and effective aircraft against both surface shipping and surfaced/snorkeling submarines. The Djibouti Navy is proud to announce the addition of this fabulous aircraft to it's ranks. |
