INTRODUCING CHRISTINA MAVROUDIS It is our good fortune to be addressed today by Mrs. Christina "MAV" Mavroudis of San Jose, CA. She will be presenting "Drum Corps Credit In Public School Physical Education." At least I know she would like to. Mavroudis performed with the 79 Granada Hills Highlander Marching Band (cymbals); the ‘77-79 Highlander Choir/Musicals; the ‘79 Los Angeles All City Marching Band (cymbals); the '79-81 Royal Cavaliers Youth Band (marimba/bells); and the '81 Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps (cymbals/first tour). She currently performs with the '96-98 Shockwave/Renegades Senior Corps (mallets/bass drum/part-time). She serves as booster for the '91-98 San Jose Raiders Color Guard (Currently on Board of Directors); the '95-98 Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps; and the '95 Spirit of Sunnyvale Youth Band. Christina's writings and photographs have graced the pages of the '79-83 Drum Corps News (Staff Writer/Photographer); the '79-95 World Of Pageantry/Pageantry Press (Contributor); the '89-98 Drum Corps World (Staff Writer/Photographer); the '95 Spirited Monthly (Editor); the '96-98 Vanguardian (Editor); the '96 DCI Year In Review (Contributor); the '97-98 DCI Highlights (Contributor); the '97 Blue Devils "Casablanca" Program (Contributor); and the '97-98 FOCUS WGI Magazine (Contributor). Online Mavroudis is known for her involvement with the CyberCorps Scholarship and the Adopt-A-Corps programs, RAMD Hall of Fame, the gRAMDie Awards (Most Friendliest, Best Show Report, etc.), and Corps web site photo contributor Outside of pageantry, Christina works as an Administrative Assistant at Sony (PlayStation), holds a Liberal Arts AA degree from DeAnza College and plans on finishing her B.A. in Education when daughter, Emily, goes off to college in 2000. Two years ago, she was chosen through her church diocese to be in the inaugural class of Leadership in Ministry. Upon graduating in 2000, she plans on heading a youth ministry program. Other freelance writing has appeared in Starlog Magazine with interviews from the cast of "Star Trek: The Next Generation", Catholic Digest, San Jose Mercury News, LA Times, and in the Santa Clara Weekly where she writes a theatre column. Christina has won numerous awards in costume design for local theatre groups and science fiction masquerades. In addition to costuming, she has worked as assistant stage manager, producer, and assistant director for several productions. Before devoting her 'other life' to drum corps and winter guard, she created fanzines & newsletters including "Data Entries" and "Quantum Quarterly." Through her involvement with the show "Quantum Leap", she chaired the committee for actor Dean Stockwell's inclusion on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the show's first convention. She has been interviewed for People Magazine, Entertainment Tonight, and just this August in the Orlando Sentinel. Suffering from 'proud-mother-syndrome' and 'compulsive volunteerism', Christina considers her most fulfilling title to be Emily's Mom. Please welcome Mrs. Christina Mavroudis.
