When Playing a Set...

"This is a tip for all those starting out...

One thing that is soooo overlooked by many DJ's starting out is the simple fact of knowing your tunes...

It sounds so simple but it - in my opinion - will make or break you as a DJ.

I've stumbled around these forums (
www.djsource.co.uk ) and heard some things that just aren't right... just questions about beatmatching and what not...
I mean, it seems as if some of you just  throw on the next record in line and pray for the best...

(On a sidenote... don't be affriad to take the record off if it doesn't sound right... better to let the song run a little longer than to totally kill the vibe by screwing up a large on a mix)

OK, i'll admit it, luck is a small part of DJing, but it should not dominate your set... instead, you should be listening to the tune playing live and asking yourself... 'what track would sound awesome mixed into this?'
You name almost any tune in one of my crates (only 3, but still) and I can whistle you the tune from it...

Your set has to be a creation... a musical masterpeice,
you're not just playing all your records in order...
you are, in essence, producing a hour long track, every time you spin...

So yeah... all the newbies... just spend time and LISTEN to all your tunes... know all the best spots to mix in and out of them... it'll help you more than you know!"
