St Joseph's Cathedral
Dunedin, New Zealand

Constructed between 1878 and 1886, as funds permitted, this Gothic Revival church in bluestone was designed by F. W. Petre, one of New Zealand's finest Victorian Architects who also designed the neighbouring St. Dominic's Priory.

"The time is not far distant when an effort must be made to build a Cathedral in Dunedin that will be worthy of the chief city of the Province and fit to be the Mother Church of the Diocese"
-Bishop Patrick Moran's Lenten Pastoral letter 1873
