Nelson, Frederic B.
Born in Binghamton, July 29, 1875, son of Manning S. and Irene M. (Holmes) Nelson. He completed his education in the schools of Binghamton and entered the employ of Graff, Bennett & Morgan Company, engaged in the wholesale of dry goods and merchandise. He became treasurer of the seven story plant at Lewis and State Sts. and the five story building at 161 Washington St. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, Binghamton Club, Kiwanis, Binghamton Country Club and Binghamton Chamber of Commerce. He married in 1898, Nina B. Bogart, daughter of Robert and Clara (Follett) Bogart and had children, Robert M. born 1900, Helen J. born 1901 William born 1903 and Clarence B. born 1907.

Nelson, George L.
Born in Adamsville, Rhode Island, Dec. 5, 1872, son of Peter and Ann (Thackeray) Nelson. He received his education in Fall River, Mass. and was employed there as paymaster at Flint Mills for thirteen years before coming to Binghamton. He became identified with Wilkinson Manufacturing Company, makers of children's vehicles, as a bookeeper.He was a member of the Masons, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Binghamton Country Club and director of the Susquehanna Valley Children's Home . He married Jan. 10, 1901, Lillian Eastwood, daughter ofW.H. and Frances L (Wilkinson) Eastwood. They had children, Frances A, born Mar. 23, 1904 and Sheila E. born Aug. 9, 1909.

Nelson, George R.
Born in Binghamton, Mar. 25, 1868, son of Benjamin H. and Julia H. ( Bross) Nelson. He attended the public schools here and was associated with his father in the fruit business, B.H. Nelson. In 1890 they sold the business and organized a private bank, located in the Nelson Building at Chenango & Eldridge Sts. He was a member of the Masons, Binghamton Country Club and director of the People's Trust Company. He married first, Oct. 10, 1899, Mary M. Wilcox of Smyrna, Chemango County, NY and had two children, Benjamin H. and Harrison W. He married second, Nov. 21, 1921 Anna L. Rogers of Binghamton, NY.

Nelson, James H.
Born in Lawrence, Mass., son of Daniel and Margaretta (Armstrong) Nelson. He attended public schools there and entered Peddie Institute in Hightsown, New Jersey. He began his business career in a silk commission house in New York City, later going to Mass. and then a ranch in Denver, Colorado. He returned east and locted in Binghamton and engaged in the real estate business for A.C & E.A. Matthews. He organized the firm, J.H.Nelson & Company with offices in the Security Mutual Building. He married in Binghamton, June 11, 1902, Mary Wilhelmina Harris, daughter of William S. and Cornelia (Marvin) Harris.

Neuberger, Franklin H.
Born in Sullivan County, NY, Dec. 25, 1880, son of Franklin and Georgia N. (Hurst) Neuberger. He attended school in Jeffersonville, NY and entered Drew Seminary at Madison, New Jersey. He was instructor in public schools for several years, but made the study of the business in which he is enganed on his own of real estate and insurance.He is identified with State Bank of Endicott and Security Mutual Life Insurance Company of Binghamton. He married in Honesdale, Pa., June 9, 1909, Josephine C. Dittrich, daughter of Ferdinand and Dorothy (Guther) Dittrich. Thay had children, Dorothy E. born July 15, 1910 and Frances A. born May 28, 1914.

Newcomb, Willis Oscar
Born in Willet, Cortland County, NY, Nov. 3, 1846, son of Samuel and Emma (Tyler) Newcomb. After completing his education , he engaged in the business as a dealer in livestock in the county. He married in Whitney Point, Nov. 10, 1874, Mary L. Seymour, daughter of George Whitfield and Mary (Freeman) Seymour. They had children,Ethel, Mary Louise who married Charles Rogers, Clive Seymour, Elizabeth Tyler, Marjorie Freeman who married Rosco Finch.

Newell, Frank B.
Born in Binghamton, July 8, 1859, son of Francis T. and Phoebe (Wentz) Newell. He received his education here and employed with First National Bank as a clerk of which his father was President.. He later was appointed Broome County Clerk, returning after six years to the bank position as vice-president. In 1910 he organized the People's Trust Company of which he was President.He married in 1899, Nellie Root and had children, Wirt Francis, and Leslie W.

Newing, Dr. Judson Shultz
Born in Ulster County, NY, Feb. 1, 1862, son of John W. and Cornelia (Barnes) Newing. He completed public schooling in Binghamton and began learning the jeweler's trade with Stephen Sherman , remaining four years under his instruction. He then went in the employ of J.H.Mason while completing courses at New York College of Optometry. In 1889 he came to Binghamton and began business as jeweler and optometrist.

Newing, William J.
Born in Ellenville, UlsterCounty, NY, May 12, 1857, son of John W. and Corlelia (Barnes) Newing. He recieved his education in public schools, entered college, then learned the carpenter's trade, his father being a builder. He was employed for four years as an apprentice , then deceided to make a name for himself and established hia own business. He took his first contract in 1877 while still a minor and continued until he retired at age 58 years. He married Mar. 28, 1883, Harriet Maculley of Newark, ew Jersey, daughter of Andrew and Eliza (Harding) Maculley, both of Scotland. Thye had children, Lyndon M.born May 3, 1886 and A. Louis born Aug 14, 1891.

Newell, William Wirt
Born in Binghamton, Dec. 21, 1861, son of Francis T. and Phoebe C. (Wentz) Newell. He received his education in the public schools and Wiiliams College and entered the law offices of Arms & Curtiss. He was admitted to the bar Sept. 1890 and formed a partnership with George Curtiss. He He later worked independently for some years and then formed a partnership of Newell & Hennessey. He was directorof People's Trust Company, a member of the Masons, Elks, Masons and Shriners.

Nichols, Gideon Parson

At the age of seventeen, he entered Temple Hill Academy at Genesceo, NY of which his uncle James Nichols was president., for a two year course.He then entered Union College, where he deceided to enter the ministry and went to Princeton Theological Seminary. He served at churhces in Rochester, NY, Chicago, Ill., Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Buffalo, NY before coming to Binghamton and associating with the First Presbyterian Church of Binghamton.He married June 22, 1871, Delia Briggs, daughter of James and Sarah (Hastings) Briggs. They had children, Robert Hastings, Margaret Parsons, Henry James, Content Shepard and James Knight.

Nichols, Harper J.
Born in Windsor, NY, Oct. 23, 1874, son of Elihue and Elmira (Knowlton) Nichols. His schooling was obtained in Windsor and from boyhood worked in agricutural pursuits, soon owning a farm of his own. Each year he added to the number of stock and increased his milk production to distribute large quanities to the cities as well as retail to the families of Binghamton.He married Oct. 4, 1901 at Kirkwood, NY, Elizabeth J. Cline of Riverside, NY, daughter of John and Caroline (Brigham) Cline. They had children, Rena J. born Oct. 24, 1902 and Leon Z. born Aug. 4, 1904.

Born in Coventry, Chenango County, NY, in 1853, receiving his education in the public schools, he entered the business life in the merchantile lines. He came to Binghamton and associated with H.W.Chubback & Company. He later engaged with Edwin Taylor in wholesale provisions line He retired from the connection to engage with his son , trading as Charles H. Niven & Son. He married Antionette R. Smith and had one son, Arthur V.

Noble, Leonard Earl
Born in Alabama, Genesee County, NY, Aug. 26, 1874, son of Charles B. and Olive (Harris) Noble. After completing high school courses, he entered a dental college, graduating in 1897. He moved to Endicott where he opened offices in the Peet Building. He married in Osceola, Pa., June 23, 1903, Elise Annette Cadogan, daughter of August and Lenora P.(Butler) Cadogan.

O'Connell, Frank W.
Born in Broome County, Nov. 2, 1892, son of James of County Cork, Ireland and Alice M. (Wheaton) O'Connell of Lisle, NY. After finishing high school, he took a special course in engineering and was employed as a carpenter for E.H.White, then in the employ of C.H.Mitchell & Company who have built such buildings as the Masonic Temple, Fox Memorial Hosp. in Oneonta and Roosevelt School. He was a member of the Masons and Elks.He married in 1913, Florence H. Hawley and had one son, Robert F. born in 1915.

O'Dea, Ernest F.
Born in Kirkwood, Oct. 25, 1893, son of Dennis and Mary Ann (McCabe) O'Dea. He attended the schools of Kirkwood, assisted his father on the farm.and succeded in the entire management of the farm. He married Mary Celia Hickey, daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Sullivan) Hickey. They had children, Ernest F. born Oct. 25, 1917, Dennis T. born Feb. 8, 1919 and James W. born June 11, 1920.

O'Neil, George L.
Born in Binghamton, Apr. 28, 1881, son of Arthur and Bridget A. (Garvey) O'Neil. He attended public schools and took a course at Binghamton School of Business. He was able to secure a position as court stenpgrapher for the Binghamton Police Dept.and later City Court. A taste for law, induced him to accept employment in the district attorney's office and while performing his duties, he was able to study law. He was admitted to the bar Spet. 6, 1906 and accepted a position under Fred Meagher. He married, June 24, 1914, Kathryn C. O'Connell of Chicago, Ill. and had children, Daniel F. and George L.

O'Neil, James
Born in County Clare, Ireland, Nov. 22, 1838, he came to this country at the age of ten. He attended the parochial schools in Binghamton. He established himself in the industrial and business life by opening a plant for the manufacturer of carriages, wagons and sleighs. He married in 1870, Nora C. Hall of Indianna and had children, Mary E., James M., William E., Sarah E.and Fredericck A..

O'Neil, John Lawrence
Born in Boston, Mass., Oct. 9, 1892, son of William Francis and Bertina Beatrice (Flynn) O'Neil. He received his education at Revere Public school in Boston and learned photography. He became affiliated with Champlain Studios and was active in their Boston headquarters for ten years and New York headquarters for five. After his service in the war, he formed a partnership with Albert Preston Davis of Binghamton, under the name of O'Neil & Davis. He married Nov. 17, 1919 in Binghamton, Lillian Mae Davis, daughter of Albert Preston and Edith R. (Gilland) Davis. They had one daughter, Barbara Jean born Mar. 21, 1921 in New York City.

Ockerman, Frederick Peter
Born in Chenango Forks, town of Barker, Sept. 9, 1856, son of John Weller and Lydia Eugenia (Norton) Ockerman. He attended public schools and was active as a farmer and stock buyer in the area. He became identified with the sheriff's department in the City of Binghamton as an under sheriff and was later elected sheriff. He went into the employ of Equitable Life Insurance Company and later accepted a position with Automatic Piano Company and became treasurer . He accepted the office of county clerk of Broome County and later supervisor of the second ward in Binghamton. He was a memebr of the Masons and Shriners.He married in Binghamton, Mar. 15, 1898, Milly Amelia Cannon, daughter of William H. Cannon. They had children, Ruth Amelia born Dec. 19, 1901, Frederick Cannon born Sept. 14, 1902, Frances Eugenia born Dec. 14, 1903 and Susan Ursala born Mar. 17, 1905.

Ogden, Arthur J.
Born in Binghamton, July 20, 1884, son of David H. and Eliza J. (Daniels) Ogden. His education began in locals schools and he graduated from Bliss School in Wash.,D.C. He entered Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. He accepted a positiion with C.W.Hunt Company and was sent to Atlanta, Ga. He returned to Binghamton and was employed with Star Electric . He enetered his father's hardware business with his brothers after the death of the father. He married in 1913, Elizabeth K. Green and had one daughter, Anna Elizabeth born Nov. 22, 1919.

Ogden, Charles H.
Born in Binghamton, Dec. 23, 1878, son of David H. and Eliza J.(Daniels) Ogden. He attended public schools and associated with this brothers in the hardware firm of Crocker & Ogden Company. He married in 1918, Erma B. Bauer, of Owego, Tioga County, NY.

Ogden, John Donald
Born in Broome County, NY, Dec. 7, 1879, son of David H. and Eliza (Daniels) Ogden. He graduated from Binghamton High School and entered the University of Buffalo graduating with the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. He began the practice of his profession in Oneonta, NY and afterwards returned to Binghamton where he had offices in the Kilmer Building. He married in 1915, Mrs. Edna (Holmes)Hirst.

Ogden, Frederic Wallace
Born in Binghamton, Aug. 1, 1874, son of David H. and Eliza (Daniels) Ogden. He attended public schools and entered the employ of Crocker & Ogden Cimpany with his brothers. He married Dec. 10, 1902, Mabel F. Greenman of Norwich, NY and had two children, Kathryn W. born July 5, 1902 and Frederic Wallace, Jr. born June 19, 1917.

Oldroyd, Elmer J.
Born in Thompsonville, Hartford County, Conn., Sept. 18, 1881, son of Hiram ,of England and Charlotte Elizabeth (Bodley) Oldroyd. He recieved his education in the public schools of Thompsonville and entered Hilliar Instutite where he took a special course in drafting and machine designing. He was identified with the Garvin Machine & Tool Company for two years and then went to Lynn, Mass where he was in the employ of General Electric Company for a year and a half, after which he entered the plant of the Taft-Pierce Manufacturing Company of Rhode Island. He later came to Endicott and was associated with the Time Recording Company, being placed in charge of the testing department. He married in 1908, Grace May Williams of Moonsocket, Rhode Island and had one son, Elmer J. ,Jr. born Sept. 24, 1909.

Orton, John Gay
Born Dec. 5, 1827, son of Rev. Azariah G. Orton. After given a thorough academic education, he entered the University of New York and upon graduating, took up hospital work. He came to Binghamton and began the practice of medicine and surgery. He founded the Binghamton Academy of Medicine. He was a member of the Broome County Medical Society, a trustee of the New York State Inebriate Asylm, a member New York State Medical Association, New York State Board of Health, vice-president of the Binghamton Savings Bank and a member of the Board of Education. He married in June 1856, Helen M. Doubleday, daughter of Dr. Ammi Doubleday of Binghamton.

Overton,William Simons
Born at Sag Harbor, Long Island, NY, Dec. 9, 1864, son of John H. and Anna T. Overton. His early education was acquired in th public schools of his birthplace and he later entered Polytechnic Instutite at Brooklyn, NY. and then the New York College of Pharmacy. He entered the Lomg Island College Hospital, graduating with the degree of Doctor of Medicine. He came to Binghamton in 1892, associated with Dr. Moore in 1910, establishing the Moore-Overton Hospital and upon the death of Dr. Moore, he assumed the management of the institution. It was the largest private hospital in the city, with modern and approved equipment and highly skilled doctors and nurses. He was a member of the Kiwanis, Binghamton Club and Binghamton Country Club. He married in 1888, in Brooklyn, Emily U. Paine, daughter of James and Minnie Paine of Brooklyn.
