FEEDBACK RESPONSE
I have received some comments and questions regarding my website and it's content. I would like to take this opportunity to set the record straight and dispell any rumours or suspicions concerning myself or this website. If there is anything you would like to comment on, please Email me.
A: SKYWATCHER TELESCOPES
I do not own any stock in Skywatcher telescopes, nor do I receive any payment or royalties from them or their parent company Synta, nor do I claim them to be supreme over any other brand name. I could have bought Orion or Celestron telescopes, Antares, or one of a number of brands. The fact is that with the exception of my 6" refractor every other telescope I bought was in stock at the dealer at the time of purchase, and I like to see what I am getting before I actually buy it.
B: MAIL ORDER/ONLINE PURCHASES
I have never had a bad experience related to buying telescopes or accessories through the mail or online, but I have never done so. I prefer to go to a dealer for any purchases. This not only goes back to the "seeing before I buy" philosophy, but if there were problems related to transport damage, or a defective product, I think a dealer would be easier to deal with in person in resolving any problems than a voice over the phone (if you actually manage to get a real person) from a complaint department of a mail order or online retailer.
C: I DO NOT LIVE IN A TRAILER PARK
* Not that there's anything wrong with that. It has been brought to my attention that the outdoor photos of my telescopes and some of my equipment were all taken in front of a trailer. Allthough I have invested a substantial amount of money into my astronomical gear and accessories, I didn't do it at the expense of compromising my living quarters. I don't live in a trailer and store my telescopes in a shed in the backyard. The photos were taken in
the yard of my Mom's cottage, and I used the neighbour's trailer as a background.
D: EMAIL CONTACT ADDRESS
Instead of typing in my Email address or posting a direct link to send a letter, I "disguised" my Email address by typing MARCTHESCOPEGUY at YAHOO dot CA for the same reason I no longer click "display my Email" as an option in forum profiles. When you type an actual Email address, or post a link to open up a pre-addressed window in someone elses mailbox to you, you run the risk of it being found by programs that search for Email addresses to send them spam. I never had a problem with junk mail in this website's mailbox until I "displayed my Email address" in a posting on the A.D.P., after which I started receiving offers to buy prescription drugs cheap (including Viagra), invest in stock that would make me rich, increase my penis size by at least 2 inches, buy genuine ROLAX watches, get my 45% cut of a 16 million dollar inheritance by claiming to be next of kin for someone in Nigeria I have never heard of by simply providing some personal information, and a wide assortment of ridiculous and sometimes amusing offers from a variety of con artists.
E: ABOUT ME:
I don't think I know everything, I'm not trying to impress anyone or sound like a know-it-all, and that guy bashing the telescope over his head and making a copy of Nightwatch levitate isn't me- neither is the other one.
F: LACK OF MY OWN DOMAIN:
I don't have my own website domain to make finding this website easier
eg. WWW.JOESTELESCOPES.COM) because it costs money. I make no profit from this website, in fact I splurged and committed about $5.00 a month to increasing my storage space and transfer rate, and getting rid of that annoying slide-in ad screen that everybody hates so much.
