Unfortunately this book is no longer in print.  The reason we placed it here is because if you can get a hold of this it is a truly fantastic read.  Quite advanced and complicated at times, the ideas are marvelous.  This book makes a nice companion to Joel Greenblatt's book "You Can Be a Stock Market Genius."  More general and encompassing than Joel Greenblatt's book, they both hit upon the same basic ideas and strategies. -For those who really want to advance as a Great Stock Picker!

Analysis/Reference:

The great reference of all-time!  This book goes through the entire gamut of financial analysis.  Essential for a well-balanced approach to stock-picking, even if you are never to use it.  For it is better to know and not to use than to never know at all.  It does come into use though, even if a person does not realize it, since it gives a person more insight and overview of how the inner-workings of the company are going.

Not sure whether this is to be considered a Reference or an Overview book, we've chose to enter it in this section.  Reason being that while a person will walk away with a true overview of much of the workings of companies and the market, it is primarily an Analysis/Reference book.  If "Security Analysis" gave forth the essence of Quantitative Analysis, then "Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits" gives forth the essence of Qualitative Analysis.  Sometimes people refer to these as Growth Stocks, and perhaps that is true, but after reading this book you will notice that if they are Growth it is due to the quality of the ideas behind the stock.  In other words, while the stocks based on the ideas in this book might all be growth stocks, all growth stocks will not fit into the criteria and structure (used in a qualitative sense) required in this book.
