Mad, Bad and Dangerous To Know. Rating:R language and some bitch slapping. Author:suzyh Disclaimer: Annie's mine, the rest of them belong to someone else. "Claire? A little help here please?" Claire came rushing over to help Darien. He had a small person slung over his shoulder. Together, they managed to put the wriggling bundle into the chair. Claire gasped in shock. Annie grinned impishly back at her. Annie's eyes were silver, Quickly, Claire snapped the restraints on. She turned to Darien. "What happened?" "Well, umm, we met up for lunch, then umm, well, you know. Anyway, we're getting ready to come back, when she goes silver eyed on me." Annie laughed, and struggled against the restraints. A pair of silver eyes scanned the room looking for a weapon to use. Claire sighed, She couldn't believe she was about to ask the following question. "Darien? When you, umm, make love, do you protect Annie?" "Well, she's protected by the injection so we never saw any need for the other." Darien was blushing to his toes. Claire nodded, that explained the situation. Annie's eyes narrowed as Claire approached her brandishing a needle. "Okay, Annie, I need to take some blood. Try to hold still." Suddenly, Annie's head dropped. Her voice came out muffled. "Darien, I feel sick. Help me, I don't want to feel this way." Darien stroked her hair and looked pleadingly at Claire to remove the restraints. Claire shook her head. Darien's eyes became even more puppy dog. "Annie, if I remove the restraints will you play nice?" "Yes. Please help me Claire." Annie sounded like a child. The minute the last tie was removed Annie kicked Claire in the chest and dodged past Darien. He leapt after her but she had the drop on him. Whirling round, she smashed a heavy file into his face. Not waiting to see if he was hurt she danced out of the keep. Claire collapsed into the chair totally winded. Darien was holding a bloody nose and staggered over to her. Silence reigned. Annie was feeling great. She needed to have some fun. Ahhh. Miss Monroe deserved a visit. She grinned at the thought of what fun she was going to have. She found Monroe's office with little difficulty, Annie knocked, waiting for her enemy to answer. When she heard Monroe's voice, she entered the room. Monroe looked up from her desk obviously not expecting to see her. "Alexandra. How are you today?" "Never better, you look different though, did you grow a few inches?" "What an eye!" Annie circled the desk sizing up the competion. Monroe got to her feet, moving out of strike range. The two women faced each other, hate eminating from both of them. Annie went for her catching Monroe off guard. They tumbled over a chair, and proceeded to have a wild cat fight. Annie managed to pin Alex under her and landed a punch right on target. Alex groaned, but broke the hold making a break for the door. She was caught, and both women flew through the door. They rolled over and over, screaming abuse. Pieces of hair flew as the fight continued down the hall. Annie got her hands around Monroe's throat and squeezed. The taller woman kicked out with her foot and connected with Annie's chest. Winded, Annie took a step back then dove in again. Suddenly, Annie was lifted off Monroe by a pair of really strong arms. Bobby wrestled her to the ground and pushed her face down into the floor pulling her arms behind her back. Annie howled with pain and wriggled to get free. "Let me go, you little bald paranoid freak." Bobby merely held her tighter. The Official arrived, quickly summing up the situation. "Padded room." was all he said to Bobby. Bobby nodded and hauled Annie off. Her screams and insults rang about the halls. The Official helped Monroe up. She looked shaken, her hair had tufts missing, her nose was bleeding and her right eye was closing up. The Official tried not to smile. That Annie was mean when she was mad. However, that was no excuse. "Report to the Keeper Miss Monroe, then take the rest of the day off." Alex nodded and went on her way. Darien looked horrified when he saw the normally unruffled agent. The Official faced Darien. "Your wife attacked Monroe with no reason. Explain to me how she got in her current state." "Maybe I can explain better." Claire applied an ice pack to Alex's eye then continued. "Darien and Annie are a very physical couple. Since they apparantly don't use condoms, Annie is subject to, well, bodily fluids." The Official held his hand up. "Do you have a point?" "Yes. Since Darien's fluids are saturated with quicksilver, it seems logical that Annie would eventually get a build up in her system. This is what caused the stage five." The Official digested this information. Darien was looking anywhere but at the Official so it made the atmosphere awkward. Claire cleared her throat. "Do you have Annie secure?" "Yes. The padded room has the honour at the moment." Darien gaped. "You've put her in there?" "It was the only option Agent Fawkes." Darien was quiet. He knew the Official was right. He looked at Claire. "Why don't you give her counteragent?" "Ummm." Claire exchanged glances with the Official "We want to see what effects she has. They could be different to yours and we want to measure the time it takes for the madness to wear off." Darien swore under his breath. Dammit. They were turning Annie into a lab rat just like him. Bobby arrived sporting a bruised cheek. "Wow, she's a real hellcat. It took ages to get her in that room." Claire started to fuss. Bobby gently took her hands away. "Bobby? Has her condition improved?" "I don't think so chief, she was shouting some real awful things when I left." "More so than usual?" The Official asked dryly. Darien glared at everyone. "Excuse me. But this is a normal life here. Annie is not a lab rat." All eyes turned to him as he raked his hand through his hair and sighed loudly. He knew it was useless arguing they had already made up their minds. Annie sat in the corner of the room. Her shoulders were aching from being confined in the straightjacket. Her mind was thinking of revenge when the door opened. Darien came in. Husband and wife looked at each other, Darien spoke first. "So. How are the digs?" "Okay I guess. If you like white." "You know you hurt Monroe. What were you thinking?" "Good. That bitch deserved a good slapping." Annie tilted her head to one side. She had to find a way to get out of this straight jacket. Darien was her best bet. She gave him her best "You know you love me " smile. "Darien? Baby, get me out of here. Bobby hurt me and I think he may have bruised my shoulder." Darien wasn't playing. He knew her game because he had played it. He shook his head. Annie's smile went to a snarl. "Fine!!! I'll kill you all anyway. You, that doctor bitch, paranoid boy, fatboy fat, not to mention that annoying geek Eberts. Just wait until I get out of this, you'll all be sorry!!" Annie got to her feet, glared at Darien then turned her back. Darien said nothing, just shook his head again and left. Annie was furious. Shit. She was sure that Stretch would have helped her. Behind the mirror, Bobby was watching. He wondered who he prefered, Darien stage five or Annie. Annie was meaner, Darien was a cold fish by the time he got to this stage. Bobby felt sure that Annie would probably be very dangerous if she got free. Darien joined him in watching his wife. "How long do you think this will last?" Bobby shrugged. "Who knows? For her sake I hope it's over soon." "This is all my fault." Darien said bitterly. Bobby shrugged again. "One of those things partner. Maybe you should invest in condoms in future." The madness lasted ten hours. In that time Annie swore, threatened, even threw herself at the mirror knocking herself out in the process. She was now lying in a ball in the middle of the room. Her head hurt and no one was answering her. She wondered where she was and why she was restrained. She had sobbed Darien's name over and over until her throat hurt. Why wasn't he here? Annie had never felt so alone or so scared. She heard a click as the door opened. She stayed curled up too frightened to move. "Please, don't hurt me." she sobbed quietly. Her face was tilted up and a light was shone in her eyes making her wince. Claire's voice drifted through a speaker. "Annie? How do you feel?" "Claire? Where am I? Please help me." "Someone will be in soon. Try to relax." Annie curled up again and fell asleep. Claire nodded at Bobby. "Right. Let's get her out of there." Annie woke up in the keep. Darien was asleep next to her. She looked around. What the hell had happened? Claire was sitting at her computer looking at data, Annie made a soft noise. Claire came over at once. "Hello." "Hey." Annie looked quizzically at Claire, who relayed the story. Annie sat with her head in her hands. "I can't believe I beat up Monroe. I guess it's condoms from now on." "Umm Annie? I think it might be too late for that." "What do you mean? Is the madness in my system permanently?" "No. When did you have your last injection?" "Eight weeks ago. Why?" "Was it on time?" Claire tried to look casual. Annie frowned. "No. It was late. I went three weeks over because I forgot." Claire smiled. "Annie, have you been feeling sick?" "Again, I ask why?" "Because from your blood test and my calculations, I estimate you are Ten weeks pregnant." Annie went pale. Darien gave a whoop of joy. Both women looked suprised, they hadn't realised that he was awake. Annie was engulfed in a bear hug from Darien. Claire tried to make herself heard above the excited noises that had broken out. "I need to do a scan. Now if that's okay?" Annie nodded. Darien nodded. They held hands as they walked to lab 2. Twenty minutes later Annie was in tears. She couldn't believe it. She had been so happy and now it was all ruined. The scan had revealed that the baby had died. Annie's body just hadn't rejected the foetus. Darien had not said a word since they had got the news. Annie started crying again. Claire put her arm around the smaller woman, she felt desperately sorry for them both. Annie sat miserably in her bed. It had been two hours since Claire had performed what she had called "A simple procedure". Darien hadn't come near her. She felt so lost without him there. Bobby entered the room, he saw Annie look over his shoulder to see if Darien was there, he also saw the crushing disappointment when she realized he wasn't. "How're you doing?" he asked gently. Annie started to cry. Bobby took her in his arms and just held her. Annie pulled away and wiped her eyes. Bobby looked so concerned it almost made her cry again. "Have you seen Darien?" she said trying to sound reasonably normal. Bobby looked suprised at her question. "You haven't?" "No." Annie said miserably. She turned desperate eyes to him. "Just tell him I'm sorry." Bobby felt his heart constrict. He pushed her hair out of her eyes and dropped a kiss on her head. He went to find his partner. Darien was sitting on the roof of the building. He couldn't bring himself to see Annie, he felt so guilty. It had never occured to him that she might need him there. He was lost in thought when Bobby's voice sounded from behind him. "So this is where you're hiding." Darien heard the hard note in his partners tone. He didn't bother looking round. "Who wants me?" "Your wife." "Ahh, yes, so she can blame me I suppose?" "God, you're a selfish bastard. Have you any idea what she is going through? No. How could you? You haven't even seen her. All she wants is for you to say that it's okay. You know what's funny? She told me to tell you that SHE was sorry. Be a man Fawkes. Go see your wife." Bobby looked at him in disgust and walked away, leaving Darien to ponder his words. He spent time going over what Bobby had said and realised that his best friend was right. He dragged himself up and hoped he hadn't screwed up everything. He peeped into Lab 2 where she was lying. She had curled herself up into a tiny ball and was facing away from the door. Monroe was talking to her in a soft voice. He saw Annie's hand come out and squeeze her arm. Monroe saw Darien and got up, he moved round the bed and faced his wife, expecting to see hurt, anger and bitterness towards him. Instead, Annie held out her arms and looked pleadingly at him. Darien accepted the embrace and pulled her close. "I'm so sorry Darien." Annie whispered. Darien stroked her hair. "It doesn't matter, it wasn't your fault, just nature. I'm sorry I bailed on you. It's okay. Everything will be okay." When Bobby checked on Annie later, he saw Darien lying on the narrow bed spooned up behind Annie, his arm curled possessively around her waist. Both were sound asleep. The Official stood behind Bobby, taking in the scene. He clapped a hand on Bobby's shoulder. "Go home Hobbes. Claire will be missing you." Bobby looked at his boss. "Who did you prefer in stage five, Annie or Fawkes?" The Official chuckled. "I'll take Fawkes anytime. Annie was too mean." Bobby smiled. "I guess they are both mad, bad and dangerous to know." "Go home Bobby. I'll watch out for them tonight." Bobby nodded, and headed for Golda. The End.
