Counting Down (for Jason) I don’t think we could count the number of footsteps it took to walk there. Not because it was too far, but because the night sky demanded too much attention, And the stars fought to penetrate their way through the street lamp’s glow. We have been counting down our time together, never getting to one. Never getting past the infinite decimal points while waiting for the sun to rise. We could sit and look up at our sky all night, but we could never count the stars. Like decimal points, there are too many. I sometimes muse at this obsession with the sky, And then ask why we choose to remain in a place where light obscures Our beloved vastness and innumerable jewels. We do we choose to strain while mesmerized? We’ve managed to travel but never to move. I don’t think we could count the number of revolutions the bus tires made Because it was too far, and we were too tired, and too busy Feelings what it was to nestle in the warm embrace of another human being. |
