| World Community of Christian Meditation was founded by John Main, O.S.B. around 25 years ago to foster the growth of contemplative prayer around the world. This website is of interest to us in Centering Prayer because of the parallel path WCCM and Contemplative Outreach are traveling. Indeed, there has been much dialogue between the two organizatons. The method of prayer is slightly different . . . John Main method recommends saying the sacred word, or mantra, over and over while Centering Prayer is a more receptive way of praying . . . yet the goal is the same - Union with God. Especially interesting is an article on this website written by both Fr. Laurence Freeman, successor to Fr. John Main, and Fr. Thomas Keating, expressing their mutual goals.
