Wartime Flier's Great Escape

Eighty-two year old Denis Stanley from Gloucestershire and pilot Bernard Maslin were on a weekend get-together with eight other light aircrafts flying to St Mary's Island, off the coast of Cornwell. At 11am the men sent a Mayday radio message and made a classic ditch landing south of St Martin's Island, near a fishing boat called Semper Allegro. After spending twenty minutes in the water, the three men were hauld on board by the crew of the boat, who contacted Falmouth Coastguard. In the aftermath Stanley says, "By the grace of God we saw a ship, so we landed as near as possible. We thought they hadn't seen us, which was a bit off-putting." All men were unharmed after the accident.

Response: I like reading this article because the man was sure that his survival was dependent on the grace of God.  It is times like these when people who have seen the grace of God are truly happy to be alive and full of love for life.  I am also happy to hear that all men were unharmed after the accident.

Police Make 811 Arrests in Big Crime Sweep

After a long month of intense police activity criminals are left "running scared" says the most senior police officer in North Yorkshire. Eight Hundred and eleven arrests have been made of the past thirty days under the banner of Operation Delivery. The drive to step up police activity in York and across North Yorkshire has produced satisfying results with instances of wanted criminals turning themselves in to escape police pressure. Cheif Constable Della Cannings says, " I have made promises to the community we serve that I will deliver better performance across a range of areas. Woe betide any law-breakr who gets in the way of my keepings those promises.

Response: My first response to this was total shock.  Eight hundred and eleven arrests in one month is incredible!  We live in a very small town where crime is not such an issue, but for someone living in area were crime is surrounding them, this article must make them very happy.  With an increase in the number of arrests, more criminals don’t want to be caught.  I was also amazed at the number of people who turned themselves in after discovering how many arrests had been made.  It’s a good step forward for stopping crime.
