Another important feature of your resume is how it is packaged. That is, your resume needs to be presented in a highly professional manner.

The first component of a well packaged resume is the paper it is printed on. A thick bond paper should always be utilized. The area in packaging that is open for individuality is the color of your paper:

A light shade of paper is always most desirable, because it is the most subtle and leaves all of the attention on the writing on the page.

Shades of white, tan, light yellow, or light gray are the most bold colors that are recommended for resumes. Whereas there are careers that are founded on art and creativity, professional resumes should usually steer clear from bold or bright paper as a foundation.

The second component of a well packaged resume is the manner in which the text is printed upon it. Laser printers provide the most consistent and evenly distributed ink for a resume, but even more detail comes from the type of font you use for your resume.

Times New Roman is the most common font used for conservative documents, but font type is an area that resumes can be spiced up a bit. There are a variety of fonts on a regular word processor that can be used to heighten focus on particular areas in the resume.

Similarly, bolding, underlining, and italicizing can all be used strategically to enhance the overall package of your resume.

A good resume would use more than one font - but the use of fonts should not be overdone. A single font should be used for the entire document, with varying fonts used to highlight different topic areas on your resume.
