Activity Plans

Audience		These activities were developed for 10 to 11 year old fifth year primary school students with limited English proficiency.

Goal		The goal of these exercises is to increase students comprehension as well as verbal and written vocabulary.

Progression		These activities will progress from easy to more challenging exercises. They are designed to build on one another, incorporating vocabulary from previous lessons and activities.

Assessment		After each exercise, the percentage of correct answers is displayed. Students learn immediately what how they performed.

Learning Objectives		1.Students will learn important facts about the first American colonies.
		Activity A Read text and complete fill in the blank exercise.
		Activity B Complete crossword puzzle using vocabulary learned in Activity A
		Activity C Recall the reading text and complete this matching activity.

		2. Students will learn about the colonists' feelings toward taxes on tea.
		Activity A Answer reading and comprehension questions about taxes levied on the colonists.
		Activity B Read text and complete fill in the blank exercise.
		Activity C Complete a timed reading activity and then learn the meaning of new vocabulary with a crossword puzzle.

		3. Students will learn about the Boston Tea Party and how it influenced the colonists.
		Activity A Read text and complete fill in the blank exercise.
		Activity B Complete a reading activity and then learn the meaning of new vocabulary with a crossword puzzle.
		Activity C Unscramble sentences from the reading on the Boston Tea Party.

		4. Students will read and learn about the Declaration of Independence and General Washington.
		Activity A Read text and complete fill in the blank exercise.
		Activity B Read the text and match the historical person with the event that made them famous.
		Activity C Review the parts of speech as more is learned about the American colonists.

		5. Students will learn about the Battle of Yorktown and America's declaration of its independence from England.
		Activity A Read text and complete fill in the blank exercise.
		Activity B Read the text and match the correct event in American history with the date that it occurred.
		Activity C Review the parts of speech as more is learned about the American colonists.

Feedback Plan		Feedback will be solicited from both students and teachers participating in these activities.
