Corinna was a lyric poet who was born in Tanagra in Boeotia, or perhaps in Thebes. She may have been the student of Myrtis and an older contemporary of Pindar. Pindar may have studied under her. Some sources say she defeated Pindar once, others say she defeated him five times. No Alexandrian scholar has studied her poetry. Her works were collected into five books. The titles of some of her poems include: Boeotus, Seven Against Thebes, Euonymia, Iolaus, The Return Voyage, and Orestes.
