| Jo was born in Houston and lived in Texas until she was an adult. She was a tomboy, a bookworm and a straight A student. Jo always loved animals, especially cats and she raised Siamese cats for her spending money as a teen. She enlisted in the United States Navy in 1973, and served five years in Puerto Rico and Washington DC. For the next ten years Jo was not only my daughter, she was my roommate and my best friend. She married 1988 in Dallas, Texas and she and Steve lived in London, England for a little over two years. Jo wanted children very badly but she wanted to wait until they were back home to start their family, so they returned to the states to live and work in Arlington, Virginia. Their son, Andrew, was born on October 17, 1991, three months after Jo was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Andrew was a healthy, happy baby even though Jo had received chemotherapy while she was pregnant. She had a very positive attitude throughout her illness but she lost her fight a week before Andrew was eleven months old.
