Marian Rivera, Marian Gracia Rivera in real life, who was born on August 12, 1984 in Madrid, Spain, is a Filipina actress and commercial model. Her first appearance in a TV drama was via TAPE Inc.'s afternoon show "Kung Mamahalin Mo Lang Ako". But the biggest break in her career however, was on 2007 when she coveted the lead role in the Philippine remake of the Mexican Telenovela "Marimar".
Along with Dennis Trillo and Iya Villania, Marian Rivera was casted in the horror Filipino film "Pamahiin" in 2006. In the following year, she starred in "Bahay Kubo" and "Desperada" which were both entries in the 2007 Metro Manila Film Festival. The romantic-comedy Tagalog film "My Best Friends Girlfriend" was Marian Rivera's first lead role opposite Richard Gutierrez. The said Filipino film recived a high rating and was successful at the box office and was reportedly grossed at over PHP140,000,000. Marian Rivera is set to do a romantic role in a Tagalog movie titled "Amnesia" opposite dingdong Dantes and Iza Calzado. She was supposed to be in a comedy Tagalog film opposite top commedians Dolphy and Vic Sotto but was later dropped accroding to the March 29, 20008 telecast of Startalk, an entertainment news program of GMA Network.
Marian Rivera's ticket to stardom was when she joined and won the eaudition for the title role of Marimar, the Philippine remake of the Mexican Telenovela which starred Thalia. She was only 11 years old when the original soap opera was aired on Philippine TV. Marian Rivera then researched the said role on the internet. Other actresses who also took part of the auditions were Nadine Samonte, Katrina Halili, Jennylyn Mercado, Karylle, Jewel Mische and Bianca King. Marimar premiered on August 13, 2007 with a 36.6% rating. Her participation in the show led to her becoming a household name among the FIlipino TV audeinces and some refer to ther as Marimar/Bella when they see her outside and with sritics from the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Inc. giving her the award Phenominal TV Star in the 38th Box-Office Entertainment Awards.
