The Women’s Safety Page

For too long many women have gone through their lives with greater restrictions on their movements than the average offender on bail. We have stayed in once it begins to get dark, taken taxis to avoid the dangers of public transport, been afraid to go to the local park, been driven out of jobs by sexist bigots and for all too many of us - we have lived in fear even in our own homes.

We can not remove those dangers we face but if we understand where exactly those dangers lie, then we can learn how to adapt our lives to be safer without diminishing our quality of life. By building up an understanding of the way criminals think and the way they work we can learn how best to deal with them. By looking at various scenarios and getting used to how to analyze the risks in any given situation we will become far better equipped in dealing with potentially dangerous situations.

This page is dedicated to freeing women from the oppression caused by the fear of crime and making their lives both safer and more enjoyable. It is about taking back control of our lives!

It contains extracts from 'The Woman's Safety Handbook' and some things that aren't in the book. It is both an introduction for the book and a supplement to it.Links for those wishing to buy the book are at the bottom of this page.

The three most important things in securing your safety are:

Awareness of how criminals work

Awareness of the behavior of those about you

Awareness of the environment you're in, the safe spots and dangerous spots around you.

Awareness is the key to survival

Men make much fun of women's intuition. Everyone has instincts, not just women. We must all learn to develop them and trust them. We take in a vast amount of information sub-consciously and analyze it sub-consciously. This is what results in our instincts. If you tried to draw a dollar bill from memory you couldn't, but if someone gave you a poor forgery you'd know, you couldn't say what was different but you'd know that something was wrong and you would refuse to take it. So why is it that when we feel there is something wrong about a person or situation we ignore our instincts?
