Why has America turned their collective back to the lost? Is it because many of those in power today avoided serving their nation in its time of need? A guilty conscience being burried by refusing to remember those taken from us all to soon? Or is it just the "ME Generation" doing the same thing it has always done... concerning themselves only with things they can touch and feel, as well as gain from? America turned away from the brave men and women that served in Vietnam. Only after Operation Desert Shield did many of the men that fought and killed for us finally feel welcome in their own nation. After a brief but intense love affair with all veterans the whole issue seemed to fade away in the average person's mind, returning again only after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Now, people are once again allowing themselves to forget about those brave men and women that served our nation. Veterans from World War Two are remembered as our "greatest generation" veterans from Vietnam are not remembered. |
