Above is a picture of Pierre 1er and is likely how the Mariner's trimaran appeared in the late 20th century/early 21st century when it was still new. (Above picture and following paragraphs from WWW.CATA-LAGOON.COM)

An example of success: built between June 89 and February 90, using the Van Peteghem and Lauriot Prévostís plans, this 18,28 metre trimaran was made of carbon and PVC foam, with particular attention paid to the gaining of weight, but also to a finishing which is out of the ordinary. Yannick MANIER made this trimaran famous throughout the world, with his work of art based on its form.

Right from the year that it was launched, Florence Arthaud managed to make the most of this boat, beating the record for a single-handed crossing of the Atlantic before winning the Route du Rhum. In the hands of Steve FOSSET (US), rechristened LAKOTA, this legendary boat continued to pulverise records right up till nowadays, one of which was the Pacific Crossing.

This 6 year old trimaran has no structure problems and continues to prove itself swift on all the seas of the Globe.
