Rules & Operations
of the Apollo Foundation
The Apollo Foundation is a charitable organisation dedicated to the preservation
of historical content relating to the micronational hobby. In particular,
to the actual nations themselves and their original creators or owners.
Many micronations come and go in this hobby. In many cases, leaders of
these communities move on to other projects or hobbies. Or in other cases
a micronation dies from inactivity. These departing people and nations
sometimes wish to protect their name and the rights to that name. While
in the virtulacrum of the internet land cannot be preserved, the departing
wishes of these people and respect for their ownership over the culture
and content of the nation can be preserved by the Apollo Foundation. In
many senses, the role of the Apollo Foundation can be compared to that
of a micronational safety deposit box and copyright office. People can
place dead nations within the protection of the Foundation and leave it
there in peace to remain forever or until such time as the depositor(s)
returns and decides to withdraw it. In the copyright sense, the Apollo
Foundation strives to protect the name and intellectual rights of the
nations interred in its care. While we cannot legally force someone to
not use the content we protect, the Foundation does have the support of
a wide community of active micronationalists and other persons of whom
would provide enough support to deter any such transgressions. And we
also provide for a static notice to anyone comining into the hobby or
otherwise the desires of those who are in our care and nations that have
existed in the past.
Here are a few quick FAQ's to cover the most common concerns.
What do I get by leaving my nation in the care of the Foundation?
-You physically get nothing. But in the sense of the hobby, your nation's
name will be protected and interred in the care of the Foundation. While
in its care, the Foundation will deter any claims of restoration or otherwise
against that name as far as we are aware of in this hobby (which covers
primarily the Anglophone and Dutch sectors). Only the original depositor
and cosignees may withdraw an interred nation from the Foundation.
What does the Foundation do with my micronations name?
-We protect it - as best as can be done with the limitations of the hobby
- in the sense of intellectual copyright, resurrection, fraud and so forth.
Consider as if you are taking your micronations name and culture, the
work you put inot it, and depositing it into a safe which only you have
the combination to. We provide that safe.
What if I come back and get the urge to rebuild my micronation?
-It is a simple procedure to withdraw a micronation from the Foundation.
So long as you are the depositor and can confirm your identity as such,
you can apply for withdrawl and the rights to your micronation will be
vested back to you and removed from the Foundation's protection. If more
than one depositor is involved with the claim, then you will need their
authorisation (cosignee) to withdraw the micronation.
What if I want to put my micronation in the Foundation but have agreements
made with other people regarding it?
-This is where you would have a cosignee in the deposit application. Simply
put, both you and those given the equal status to withdraw the micronation
(up to four people) may all become cosignees. Note, however, that to withdraw
a cosigned micronation requires the authorisation of those same cosignees.
What happens if a cosignee disappears or leaves the hobby?
-Then we require that said departure be proven as best as possible and
will require an additional one (1) week in which the Foundation may attempt
to contact that person independently and confirm departure. If said cosignee
has been confirmed as departed by the Foundation, authorisation will be
given to remove that cosignee from being a requirement of withdrawl.
What do I do if I don't want to remove my micronation from the Foundation
but instead let some other micronation borrow it for a while?
-We allow a lease plan which will allow member states to, with the same
approvals required as a standard withdrawl, to lend their micronation's
identity to another micronation for a fee. We recieve no profits from
such fees and these are negotiated between the depositor and the leasing
party. When the terms of the lease are agreed upon by both parties, the
depositor may present a lease application to the Foundation.
