What Should Be Done
Animals should be banned
from all circuses. These animals should be taken and put into sanctuaries,
so they can live out the rest of their lives in peace. This is a step in the right direction from ending abuse to circus animals. These animals will be
able to roam, feed, and bred on their own. While this isn't their
natural habitat, it is closer to it , than circus life. Some sanctuaries are
even open to the public, which gives spectators a truer account on how they
act in the wild. While this sounds ideal, Congress needs to pass a bill banning animals from circuses a reality.
There are currently many sanctuaries that provide homes
for retired circus animals and unfortunately have to untrain what they have
learned at the circus. The animals don't hear the rush of the crowd, or the
snap of the whip, instead they are able to graze, eat, and mate on their own.
Sanctuaries
Black Pine
Animal Park is a sanctuary dedicated to helping and providing homes for
exotic animals. It is open to the public and teaches people about wild animals.
Children will learn more at a sanctuary, than at a circus, because they are being
taught how animals interact with each other.
Primarily Primates
is a non-profit sanctuary dedicated to helping primates. Five-hundred primates
reside there and the number is growing. It is one of the largest and oldest
primate sanctuaries established in 1978. They also provide a rehabilitation
program for injured animals.
The WildWood Endangered Animal Sanctuary
helps stressed and abused animals, many former circus animals. These animals
have attacked people. Many animals that have attacked people,
are either shot, or sent to trophy ranches. People pay to shoot
these animals for sport and have them stuffed over their mantel. The fortunate ones are sent to this sanctuary, where they are taken care of.
All circus animals should be provided with this same kind of
environment. Circus animals are slaves made to work, and are beat when they
don't follow the rules. Slavery ended two-hundered years ago in the United States, why is it acceptable for animals to be in chains?
