Last House on the Left

1972, Directed by Wes Craven

Starring: Sandra Cassel as Mari Collingwood, Lucy Grantham as Phyllis Stone, and David Hess as Krug Stillo

J-Rock's Review:
More fun than watching this movie of 5 skulls

This one is supposed to be a classic of some sort....damned if I know why. I'm assuming it's because it was written and directed by Wes Craven, so therefore it must be the greatest fucking thing ever made, but in my opinion, it's no more than an exploitation flick, and a despicable one at that.

It's about two girls who try to buy some weed from a guy in New York City and end up being kidnaped, raped and killed by his two friends, who have just escaped from prison. The two felons and their two accomplices end up staying at the house of one of their victims, and her parents figure out that these are the people who killed their daughter, and they exact their revenge, swiftly and brutally.

First off, this movie is full of stupid people. The two girls follow some sketchy guy up into a sketchy apartment to buy pot, where they are, of course, taken captive. I mean, how dumb can they be?

Later in the movie, when their car breaks down, the four scumbags ask the girls' parents for help (coincidentally), and they offer to let them spend the night in their house. Who the hell would do that?

Oh yeah, let's not forget the bumbling local police, who are worse than usual movie cops. These idiots run out of gas on the way to the crime scene! I mean, come on!! One of them might look familiar, however - that's because he's Martin Kove, star of the Karate Kid movies!!

As far as the plot, the parents eventually kill the criminals one by one. The only killing worth mentioning is where the mother, let's say, does a "Lorena-Bobbitt" to one of the guys, which kills him.

No matter what you may have heard about this movie, avoid it. I guess I'm just not one of those horror movie snobs who appreciates this type of movie (you know, a shitty one).
