mark feldman's summer trip grand canyon part 2 - july 31 / august 1 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||
the south rim, where 90% of the crowds go, was full of breathtaking views, even more so than the north rim. i spent a day taking in those views as well as some of the historic buildings of the national park, such as the el tovar hotel (above) and the desert view watchtower (below).
the area was a little overrun with commercialism (mommy, can we go to the gift shop?) but that was easy to ignore when you have one of the natural wonders of the world to look at. and what you can see from the south rim is only about 20% of the actual canyon. scary.
of course, this was mostly just a prelude to hiking down into the canyon. so most of the day i had to fight off my impatience for tomorrow to arrive! the views above show parts of the bright angel trail, which would be my way up.
tomorrow arrives... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
