Extreme Ataxx

Ataxx is a game of skill, played on a seven tile by seven tile board by two players, who alternately take turns. Each turn consists of a player placing a new piece, moving an existing piece, or passing his/her turn, if no other move is legal. The name Ataxx is taken from the 1990 Leland arcade game; the origins of the board game, however, can be dated back to 1988, and the work of Dave Crummack and Craig Galley on Infection.

My old, yet very strong implementation of Ataxx, called Extreme Ataxx, has been available for download since I implemented versions 1.00 and 1.01 in 1998 and 1999. The only decent competition I have found since then is the implementation of Blobs for Zillions of Games. However, that is a commercial product.

After giving the issues due consideration, I decided to make this software free software. That means you, the user, are entitled to do what you want with this software once you posess it. You may copy it for friends, rewrite it, and re-release it, among other things, within the restrictions of the GNU Public Licence. Below are links to the software.
