Mark McLelland is an interdisciplinary researcher working on the
intersections between gender, sexuality and new technologies in Japan. He is the author of
Male
Homosexuality in Modern Japan: Cultural Myths and Social Realities
and the editor of Japanese
Cybercultures, as well as many journal articles focusing on Japanese
sexuality and its representations in the media.
Currently based in The Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies at the University of Queensland, Mark is compiling another edited volume entitled Japan: Gender and Transgender and writing a new monograph on the use of the Internet by Japan's sexual minorities.
Mark is also one of the founders of
AsiaPacifiQueer,
a network
of Australia-based scholars researching queer cultures and peoples in the Asia-Pacific region.
