Why we choose Medela

I don't really know anything about pumps, let alone breast pumps. But when I see a product in action and I'm satisfied with the results, I want to recommend it to everyone I know. A lot of mothers here in the Philippines would really like to breast feed. Unfortunately, due to their hectic schedule and daily chores, they are not able to do so. And with the cost of breast pumps in the market, one would not even consider buying a pump.

My wife and I have not really tried other pumps except the Avent ISIS manual pump. She didn't like it, so we bought the Harmony and gave the Avent away to a cousin. By the way, sharing or using a used breast pump and its accessories is like sharing a comb. If you are a person who has concerns about that kind of stuff, then I wouldn't suggest sharing your pump.

Below is some information about how my wife uses the Medela pumps and why we decided to import and sell Medela.

In the morning, my wife uses her Pump in Style to begin her day. My wife's morning pumping session is something that really amazes me and our whole family. I can't use the standard 5 oz bottle that comes with the pump, since my wife pumps out around 12 oz of milk every morning. I simply replace the bottle with a standard Pigeon bottle. ThePersonalFit connectors will fit any standard size bottle, so don't worry if you have different brands of standard bottles. This is definitely a plus in my book!

At work my wife takes her Harmony Pump and the cooling element. She pumps every 3 hours, 15 minutes per side, then just stores her milk in the cooling element. The cooling element will keep the milk cool up to 8 hours in normal Manila temperatures and up to 12 hours inside an airconditioned environment. So it will last a typical day at work, long enough to keep the milk fresh till you get back home.

When we get back home, we transfer her excess milk to food grade plastic bags. They are easier to store and don't eat too much space in the freezer. We use the Playtex brand plastic bags which is around P399 at SM. There are other brands like Avent but expect to pay a premium for those. Below is a picture of my wife's typical day "production" and her breast milk cache in the freezer. Now remember that I'm not saying that you will have this kind of milk production as well. It just shows you the reason why we love this pump.
