Greg's Locomotives
(Copied not quite word for word from Greg Wissing)
The prototype for this 0-4-0T
loco was built by Samedhi & Wehr (Netherlands). Delivered in
1882, it worked the Tranvias de Alba somewhere on the Mosquito
Coast of the Middle Americas
The model depicts the loco as heavily rebuilt in the 1970's. The
Tranvias de Alba hauled tea and people in a very mountainous area.
Steam was superseded by electric trains in the 20's, but this
loco was retained as standby power and odd jobs. It weighed only
about 14 tons, same as the loco on my homepage! Amazingly, the
curve radius for this line was as little as 11 metres!
The Garratt depicted by this
fine model also worked on the Tranvias de Alba, but it did not
survive as long as the 0-4-0T, probably being too complicated.
Another reason the 0-4-0T survived could be because the electric
locos took over the heavy jobs but there weren't enough of them
to do the small loco jobs.
