Wombat Creek

This small layout is inspired by the HOn3 layout by Harry Grosvenor, as described in AMRM 202 Feb 1997

Designed to fold in half lengthways, the layout was built so Harry could use it on caravanning trips.

The length of the HOn3 layout was 4'6" or 1570mm. I have redrawn it using HO Atlas code 83 track, fur use as an On30 shunting layout. Total length is now 1850mm or 6' by 450mm or 1'6".

I envisage being able to use box wagons (covered vans), flat, open and louvre vans, and a 4 wheel guards van with open end platforms to keep the train under control.

For locomotives, the Branchlines 0-4-0ST Manning Wardle 'Busy Bee', Berg's Burrinjuck Krauss 0-4-0T/WT, Boulder Valley 'Mighty Midget', or if you don't like to build locomotives, the Bachmann 0-4-2ST Porter or Davenport 4wDM would work well. As long as the locomotives are not longer than 140mm

Structures are limited, with one major factory or warehouse, with a generic sounding name, modelled half-relief against the backscene, a small timber station building on an earth filled platform in the forground, a similar styled timber goods shed on a timber platform to the right of the factory rounding out the structures. A small water tank and water column if steam loco's are used would add to the scene. On Harry Grosvenor's original, a water tank hid one hinge support, with the factory hiding the other.

Here is a version with an extra siding, which could have a loading ramp or wharf/pier. A three legged derrick crane would also look good here.

Harry Grosvenor used an electronic dice with 4 outcomes, to randomly select which wagon went in which siding. This made the layout somewhat of a puzzle.
