Director of
Music Ministries, First United Methodist Church, Clovis, NM
FUMC is a church of 850 members in Clovis, a town on the Eastern NM high plains, built by the Santa Fe railroad and sustained by nearby Canon AFB, a large number of dairy farms and other agriculture.
Key
responsibilities
I am responsible for all aspects of music ministries at FUMC. These include directing the Chancel Choir and Asbury Ringers (5 octave English handbell choir). We also have two graded children's choirs and a youth choir directed by volunteers. I coordinate the recruitment and scheduling of solos and ensembles in the Sunday morning worship and coordinate any extra worship events. I am full-time (with little time for anything else).

July, 2001 - Of course, summer is the time for planning. I'll be quite happy if I can have all the music for Sunday mornings through the Epiphany finalized by the end of the month. Also, I'm in the process of computerizing the music library of the church. This entails entering into a database (I'm using MS Excel 2000 because it's handy) all the information I could possibly need on over 90 years accumulation of printed music, most of which is really junk. Add to that the occasional trip to Santa Fe (200 miles one-way) for inspiration and to renew my envy of those who live there.
Here is the latest version of my bio, used for concert programs and the such.
Raised in the isolated desert community of Burns, Oregon, Mark earned a B. A. in Music Education from George Fox College in 1986 and a M.
