Following an emailshot from Montevideo, I plucked up the courage to order some high heeled Tanguera shoes from a company in Uruguay. No, not for me, for Judith! The website looked nice and the shoes looked wonderful. I was very impressed by Karen who gave me advice about sizes. She even suggested we traced around Judith's feet and sent her a JPEG so that we could be confident we had chosen correctly. Amazingly, the shoes arrived within 4 days of ordering. They are simply to die for, beautifully hand-crafted, full leather and leather lined. In comparison to the sorts of dance shoes we see in the UK, they are in a different league. Judith says they are so comfortable with firm soles , good heel support and supple glove-like uppers. Knowing how hard it can be for women to find comfortable, attractive, high quality shoes to dance in, we both heartily recommend this company.BUT A WORD OF WARNING. For every $150 (£80) pair of shoes you buy this way, you will eventually get a customs bill of another $75 (£40)!! We still think it was worth it, but then we do tend to spend a lot on shoes. al Tango This fantastic Polish tango orchestra that plays Argentine and world tango music have a really good website, in English, Spanish and Polish, with lots of music to hear. They have produced a great CD of tangos from Russia, Finland, France, Poland and Germany as well as a fresh take on some classics. Their angle is that Tango does not just belong to Argentina and this site makes a very strong case for that idea.
Mala Pinta , our very good friends from Paris are a really superb band with a very flexible approach to playing for Milongas. They are able to offer all sorts of combinations from Trios to Sextets and when they play for us they keep the floor absolutely packed and delighted.
