What to Send to a Celebrity?

My Collection Tips & Tricks Celebs in Person Resources Survivor

Not all celebrities have stacks of photos to sign for their fans. Here is a simple inexpensive suggestion of what to send to a celebrity for him/her to sign.

  • Send a 9" x 12" self addressed stamped envelope. If you are from Canada or anywhere outside the US, include $1 US to cover the cost of postage. You can also purchase US stamps from the US postal service via phone or on their web site.

  • Print your own photos. Research for photos via the internet and print them onto photo paper. I recommend using Kodak High Gloss 4x6in. Ultima Picture Paper or Kodak Soft Gloss 4x6 inch Picture Paper. Most photos you find on the internet will not be bigger than 4" x 6". I also recommend searching for photos on Google and Yahoo. If you sell your autograph then take your own pictures of the celebrities and get them signed. Don't profit from somebody's work. I can't stand people who do that.

  • Since the anthrax incident a few years ago, many celebrities won't open fan mail. There is a simple way around that. Print a short letter onto a postcard and mail it to the celebrity. Since the postcard has a shiny coating, if you type your letter on to the postcard then cover the letter with clear packaging tape. This will prevent the ink from smudging as it goes through sorting machines and being handled by people. Also, I recommend sending a postcard to anyone politician. You don't need to send a self addressed stamped envelope to politicians.

  • DO NOT: Do you plan on getting autographs from an entire cast of a tv show? My suggestion is that if you are writing by mail do not try to get the entire cast to sign the same cast photo. A rule of thumb is that when you send a photo to a celebrity, be prepared for the possibility that it might not come back. For example, let's say you had a Brady Bunch cast photo and you just received it back signed by Barry Williams (Greg Brady), and now you want it signed by Florence Henderson (Carol Brady). Do not send the photo that Barry Williams signed to Florence Henderson for her to sign. It may get lost in the mail, etc.
