Becky read the note and it stated that her boss, Mr.Stine needed to see her as soon as she came in. She became nervous and wondered what he wanted to see her for, hoping that it was good news. It wasn't that Mr. Stine was an intimidating person, it was just that feeling nervous is the natural feeling to have if your boss needed to talk to you privately, which can either mean something bad or good. His office door was usually open but this time it was closed.
Becky knocked on his door."Sir, you wanted to see me? " she asked when he answered . " Ah, yes, Rebecca" He was the only one who called her by her full name and he always said it with such enthusiasm. He was a middle aged man who was tall and thin. He had the same dark mustache since when Becky started working for him,and it was beginning to look pretty funny since he was going bald. "I have good news for you. I'm giving you a raise for you're good working habits and stories." " Thank you sir, I didn't expect this at all" Becky said relieved that it wasn't bad news.
"You deserve it, and I hope you continue working the way you are" " I will, sir, you won't regret it" she promised and left his office. She continued her work throughout the day writing articles for her entertainment column and sent them to their rightful departments. By the end of the day she was exhausted and yearning for a good dinner. She packed up her belongings and headed out. She was passing by a Chinese resturant when she heard a voice call her. " Becky!" she turned around and realized that it was Mark. Mark was a tall masculine guy with dark hair and mesmerizing eyes. He was a close friend that she knew from college and throughout High School. He was different from the other guys she knew and had been a great friend throughout those years. He was there for her when she had issues and helped her overcome obstacles in her life, and vice versa."HI, what's up?"
"Not much, I was just about to go and get some dinner to go. Wanna join me?"
"Sure,I'm starving" she said and followed him into the resturant. When they had recieved their orders they went back to Mark's place to dine.
They ate and watched T.V. and conversed about every subject they could come up with. They had touched upon the subject of relationships and Becky brought up Nikki's engagement. At one point Mark and Nikki had dated for a few months in High School. Despite the fact that they dated it didn't ruin their friendship.
"You know, Nikki's engaged" she let him know as she took another bite out of her sesame seed chicken. "Really?" "yup, this weekend" " She's marrying that wacko with the obsessive compulsive disorder?" "Mark, be nice"Becky laughed playfully slapping his hand. "But he does, God forbid anyone touch his things and put them where they don't belong" "ok, he's a neat freak, at least when we visit we won't be visiting a pig sty, which is the least I can say about your place" she said looking around his messy bachelor pad. "Guys are supposed to be messy, that's what makes us guys" " Danny's a very organized man and that's rare to find" "No, gay guys are neat... if you ask me Danny seems a little...you know" Mark made a swift hand gesture. "Oh shut up, Mark. Danny isn't gay"she chuckled "How can you be so sure?" he asked raising an eyebrow. Silence deafened the room and Mark and Becky laughed. "Listen to us, we sound like idiots trying to figure out this guy's sexual preference" she pointed out. " I was joking...i'm sure Danny's a great guy and he'll make her very happy" he said in a serious tone. "Yeah, he will" "What about you? dating nayone now?" "You know the answer already. Me and my luck with guys...maybe I'll join the convent since I don't seem to be scoring" "I take it not too good" "Ugh, it's far from good. And you? I'm sure you have no trouble getting any girl" "That's not neccesarily true, because I'm having your luck" "Yeah right, nothing at all?" "No,I've had a few dates but the girls weren't really my type" "Oh, airheads right?" she grinned while she crushed the empty soda can. "yeah, basically that's it" he laughed. "I'm stuffed what about you?" he commented. "I'm really stuffed. Thanks for inviting me over for dinner. Now I have to go home and modify a few articles. I'll talk to you tomorrow" "see ya" he waved as she left.
When she arrived home she picked up her mail and sat down on her sofa to look through them.
"Bill,bill,bill...hmm"she said when she came across a letter from her parents.
