The following morning when Becky arose she noticed that Mark wasn't in bed and got up to look for him.She showered and got dressed and then descended down the stairs to the kitchen and saw him out on the deck staring out into the ocean. She looked at the kitchen clock which read 5:00am and walked outside. It was a chilly morning and the sun was beginning to rise.
"Morning" she greeted him as she stood next to him.
"Hey" he replied without taking his eyes off the panorama. None of them spoke for a moment. All that was heard were the waves crashing onto the shore.
The piercing silence between the two made her feel uncomfortable.
" This is awkward" she said finally.
" What?"
" You know what I'm talking about. This-this day after moment"
" I know... it shouldn't but it just feels that way"
" Do you regret it?"
He looked at her for a second and sincerely said "No, I don't regret it at all...do you?"
" No, not at all" she smiled.
" Becky, I've been meaning to tell you this but i guess last night basically answered it"
"What is it?"
" Remember i was telling you about that girl I was interested in?"he asked.
she nodded.
"I was talking about you"
"Really?"
"u-huh"
" You shouldn't have been afraid to approach me and tell me"
" You're different from other girls. Something about you made me feel intimidated about telling you my real feelings. I also didn't want to ruin our friendship"
"I don't think it's ruined our friendship...instead I think it's improved it" she said.
He smiled and looked at her taking in all of her natural beauty. He gently pushed back stray hair strands that the wind that blown into her face as his lips brushed softly on her face and led his lips to hers. Their lips locked forming sweet kisses which grew into more passionate ones. The men that Becky had kissed in the past had done the same technique that Mark had used but his kisses seemed to be so much more realistic and sweeter than the rest of them.It was almost like she saw and felt sparks flying between them. Suddenly they heard the front foor close and she looked over to see who it was.
"We're home" her mom greeted them as she and her father walked in.
" You're home early" Becky said sarcastically.
"Yeah, well you know how your father likes to talk so much at parties"
"What are you two doing up so early?" her dad asked.
" We're early birds" Mark grinned.
" So, who left drunk?" Becky asked.
" Becky, that's not nice" her mom said.
"But it's true theres always someone who leaves extremely drunk"
"Your tio alberto left drunk" her dad replied.
" That's not a surprise"
" We should turn in now. What time are you leaving today?"
" Around 6"
" oh ok. Becky, can I talk to you for a second?" her mother asked.
"Sure" she said as they walked into the yard.
"I wanted to apologize"
"For what?"
"For being the way I am"
"Well, thats an apology long over due"
"I'm sorry if I'm very hard on you all the time. I know the things i say to you can be cruel but it's just that my mouth gets the best of me, so I don't think before I speak. I should take your feelings more into consideration and that's what I'm going to try to do from now on"
"wow, ma... and all this time I thought you were a cold beast, but you're really not"
"I'll have you know that within this cold surface is a real softy at heart. Now,Do you accept my apology?"
"Yes I do" she smiled and hugged her mother. Deep down Becky was quite proud of her mother admitting that she was wrong and having the courage to improve her self. She felt that this was going to be the beginning of a good relationship and she hoped that it would stay that way.
