Experimental investigations on neutron emission from projectile-impacted deuterated solids

Deuterated polycrystalline solids (LiD, TiDx and PdDx, etc.) were impacted by nylon projectiles of < 1 km/s velocity
to look for and characterize possible neutron emissions from fracto-fusion type reactions. Emission of < 100 neutrons from impacted 6–8 mm size lithium deuteride samples is inferred by monitoring signals from a bank of BF3 detectors in various ways.
