Non-returning  boomerangs & throwing clubs
Non-returning boomerangs or throwing clubs, have been used for thousands of years and by countless civilizations, around the world. The bottom three were patterned after Native American throwing clubs, used for small game. Used in a set of three and thrown side arm, these clubs can deliver quite a blow. Practicing on pine cones, in my yard, in less than one hour, I was able to hit pine cones, at least one out of three times, at ten to fifteen paces. This is in an open yard and with a stationary target, but shows that such a weapon may have been able to bring down small game. This kind of weapon would not be used against other men however, because when you throw it, you have just given your weapon to your opponent.
The top stick is made of hickory, is 27 1/2" long and is tapered, to give more weight to the ends. It delivers more energy to the target and has about the same range.
The curved stick is made of oak and is an effort to extend the range of the throwing stick. This one is too light, too thin and has poor range. I have read that Australian, non returning boomerangs, can be accurate, at over one hundred yards. To date, I have been unable to even get a non-returning boomerang to travel that distance, much less be accurate. More research is needed or possibly the technology has been developed and lost again. In any case, I will keep trying.
