The Bury, Heywood & District Province was formed by the Lord Clyde and the Stanley lodges in 1874. Unfortunately these lodges are no longer with us.

In 1897 the Province, along with the Manchester and Rochdale provinces were suspended from the Order when the Northern and London lodges conducted a split.

Soon after this the Grand Lodge moved to Birmingham and in 1898 the present Bury, Heywood & District Province was formed and admitted into the Order.

Over the years 41 lodges were opened in the Province and in 1998 we celebrated 100 years of Buffaloism. The same year two of our lodges celebrated their centenaries, namely the Perseverance Lodge No. 534 and the Matthew Fletcher Lodge No. 394. In 2001 the Haslingden Lodge No. 736 celebrated it's centenary.

We now have 7 very active lodges in our province and we will soon celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Stopes Jennings Lodge No. 6343.
