I made the decision to buy a boat about a year ago, I read articles on buying yachts, I bought magazines and I dreamed of boats that far exceeded my humble little budget! Family and friends and wise people in the know kept telling me how stupid it would be to waste my money on something like a yacht at my age (23). Why didn't I do something sensible with my money like buy shares or put a deposit on a house? At the least why didn't I do something understandable like buy a car? That they could understand, 23 year olds bought cars that was ok, but a boat was as the cliche goes like throwing money down the toilet. I knew one thing and one thing only. I wanted a yacht. Every waking moment of my life at that stage was consumed by dreaming of adventures to be had crusing, the fun I would have the lifestyle I could achieve.......I had to do if for no other reason than to confirm my worst fears, shatter my dreams and get on with my life as a sensible investing, saving salary earning individual!
I have now taken the plunge, I forked out the big bucks, and bought myself a boat.... have I regretted it since? yes! Has it cost me far more than I thought? Yes! Has it fulfilled my dreams, brought my adventure, relaxation and enjoyment??? you bet! would I ever consider getting rid of her and buyng something far more sensible? No way.........
