| Making Prayer Ties |
| Supplies needed - Cloth or coloured paper, tobacco, red yarn, medicine blanket, sweet grass and sage. A prayer tie is made by cuting a one-inch (2.5) cm square piece of 100 percent cotton red cloth or coloured napkin paper in red, orange, green, blue, purple and /or burgundy. When you have cut the square, place a pinch of tobacco, sweet grass and sage in the center of it,place your prayers in with the tobacco. The pull the corners up and gather them in. Tie the red yarn around the top, making a pinch bundle. Make 50 ties at a time. |
| The Medicine blanket |
| Your medicine blanket is used to bring your physical connection to spirt. It provides safty and protection - through comfort - within its array of colours and texture. It is recommended that it be handmade of any cloth of 100 percent cotton or wool. To care for the blanket, honour it every full moon by rubbing in the seven sacred disciplines- which are earth, water, ashes, sage, tobacco, sweetgrass, amd cedar. Your medicine blanket is to be used in ceremonial work as a shield of safety. YOu can also use it to make a study budle in which you can carry your drum, rattle, notebook, and things like that to class. You can use is at home on you bed, or take it with you at all times, even when you're travelling (put it around your shoulders in the car, train or plane) or going to the hospital. |
